Can't help you there bud. I remained on 2.2...

Wait for 2.3 - apparently they reckon there is 30% increase in quality of that baseband. So yeah they probably screwed up 221 baseband up to defeat yellowsn0w's purpose...

urgh... go figure

anyone play around with the new ireal sms yet??? REALLY funky quick sms feature, from any app/springboard you push the volume up and an instant quick reply window pops up where you can specify recipient (so, quick send really, not quick reply)

Ignore the message you getting from server..

Download original .IPSW for 3G from here:
http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

After the 250MB file is done, open iTunes, connect your device in DFU mode and hold down alt whilst clicking on 'Restore' so you can select your own .IPSW.

RE: the above... downloaded the firmware manually, still having issues - plugging the iPhone in results in the cant connect to software update server message and the iPhone doesn't even mount in iTunes so cant get to the screen where the 'Restore' button is.

Looks like Vodacare is the only option (I pray this isn't the case), any ideas?

For some odd reason you have to be online even if you are doing an update from a file on your hard drive. Otherwise you can't update. Windows it's shift and click restore to get to the locally stored file. Press and hold the home button when you attach the phone to your machine to get it into restore mode.

If the phone is connected in DFU mode, it doesn't need to be connected to the internet!

That is restore mode not DFU - he needs to get it into DFU mode.

Hold POWER button and HOME button for 10 seconds... (count 100, 200,300....) once you get to 10 release POWER button. If the Apple Logo came on you over counted. Start again. If not keep holding HOME button for remainding 10 seconds and you will notice iTunes popping up with the phone in DFU mode, allowing you to restore.

Like morkhans said above, you need to hold SHIFT then click on restore on Windoz3.

In DFU mode you don't need to be connected to Internet. Restore mode you do.

So put it in DFU mode.

Thanks for the correction.

I had a friends phone hang with the apple logo at boot time and restore mode got the phone recognised in iTunes and I could reload the firmware.

Thanks for the pointer on DFU mode not needing internet access good for when you are in a pinch with no net access :)

ahh.. to do a "reset" home+power button for 10 seconds

Reset it - Hold POWER button and HOME button in till it resets.. Probably some glitch...

No worries m8 =)

Restore mode is for simple restoring procedures. The dude restored with the wrong firmware!

SlinkyMike: Yesterday you asked me a question about MAC. Are you in Mac or Windows?

If Mac, you hold down the 'Option' (alt) key when clicking 'Restore' in iTunes to select your .IPSW from your directory.
If Windows, you hold down the SHIFT key when clicking 'Restore' in iTunes.

Totally weird - it kept hanging on 'Preparing iPhone for update' and on about the 3rd attempt the whole process completed and now it all hunky-dory. Thanks to all who assisted ;)

You would think Apple could put a check in place in iTunes in order to prevent this.

Granted: I am the d1ck who did it but I must say that a simple: "Wrong FW douchebag" would have saved me plenty hassle. One does not generally clear your mind and focus for this sort of thing, I was having a beer (or three) and chatting to some peeps while doing it and since I still have all of the stuff for my 1st gen iPhone I just misnavigated and pointed to the wrong file.

My SO has a 1st Gen and I now have a 3G version, so I also find myself checking the firmware version twice before running updates :)

fxit, I see in one of your screenies that you have a TV Guide installed. WHere can I get that?

hey man, that was limnos' screenshot. You'd have to ask him. If it works for dstv it would be cool :)

Lol, maybe I just assumed that it was you. :)
But agree, would be very cool. Can one still get the EPG somewhere? Multichoice apparently 'banned' us from using it some time ago and im not sure if one can still get it anywhere. Pretty sure thats how the guide will get its feeds

Limnos... any help... ?
