ps, won't expect anyone to pay untill we have the right confirmed amount of people, will set up an account then

ugh. this is annoying me endlessly.

i want to surf the web from my iphone but i want to put my iphone in airplane mode and surf over my computer's connection..
i connect using a vodacom USB 3G modem and i have an ad-hoc wifi network set up, which the iphone connects to (i know it does because i can use the Remote app for itunes...)
every time i try to open safari it tells me that it cant open the page because it's not connected to the internet, even though my computer is connected and my iphone is connected to the wifi network.

what am i missing?

It could be that your phone doesnt properly detect all router settings. Have a similar problem at work, have to put in the DNS and proxy manually (we don't need the proxy to connect, but it won't connect without)
Confirm all your IP settings manually, or even enter static, should work fine

That someone MIGHT have been me...recall saying that i want the API (as well as some spare time - you can't maybe help with that one?).
I also have 2G though...
Let's see how the response goes... I might also be interested... Will think about it

windows xp??

start -> connect to -> right click the internet connection item -> properties -> sharing

check all 3 items, and select the wireless network

when you're done, check that your computer's ip address has been changed to 192.168.0.1

Is it not cause the phone is in airplane mode? Why are you putting it in airplane mode, if you connected to a wi-fi connection, safari will route web requests via the wi-fi network and not via the phone's 3g connection.
At least that's how mine works.

I was thinking the same thing.

My iphone always scouts for a wifi network first, before it connects via HSDPA.

Will I need a mac to be able to use the apple sdk? Some of us are windows users. No use buying in, if I can't use it on vista. :)

I can't afford a mac right now. I have tried hackintosh last year with no success. Tried from 2 different sources and couldn get it working. Got one working on a pc at work though so I think it's hardware related. Maybe I should try getting that to work again. :)

Shot! this worked...
I had it working a while ago but had to format my computer and I couldn't remember what I did to get it to work..
Is there a way in which I can force my iPhone to keep using the exact same wifi IP?

Nope, I just enable airplane mode because my wifi shuts down when my screen locks itself and i dont feel like having cydia downloading a crapload off my sim..
