Wife's phone would not restart, went and plugged it into her pc and it restarted as soon as it picked up her itunes??? Only thing missing is the carrier logo, where it used to say Cell C it now says _ _ _ _

don't mind him haha.

seems like a very short tempered guy..

... I prefer focussed, but yeah, ok, sometime... Grrrr...

So can we get a final headcount as to who's in to register a dev profile?

Everyone who's in, mail me, my username here @ gmail.com, will create a group USA paypal account tonight

Well you could probably just delete the Installer.app file in Applications (if such a folder exists)

But i'd probably just jailbreak it again with Installer unticked to make sure no other files are left around the place..

There's also an XML file somewhere that is the configuration for the speingboard, you'll have to remove the installer entry from there as well, google 'how to hide springboard icons manually' that will lead you to the file in talking about

here's some motivation for those wondering if they want to join the dev group to get the os 3.0 beta

just cracked the ipcc file, can now tether and send/receive mms on vodacom

should be quite easy to mod it for cell c/mtn/virgin now that I've figured it out... lol

for those on os 3.0 and vodacom give me a shout and i can forward the ipcc

Ok i've been doing some reading and they say it should be fine to update a 2G iPhone to the 3.0 OS as it doesn't update the baseband. However, on the 3G iPhone it's a different story.

Can't morkhans friend just do us few users a favour and add us to his UDID list free of charge? :)

u sure it's ok for the 2G? don't know if the unlock is applied to the baseband?

unlock can still be done, but not yet, as there's no quickpwn for 3.0

Would be nice if a dev can add us to the UDID list for free though :)

I'm not that depserate that i would pay though :p

I have seen reports of people using the upgrade to 3.0 on 1st gen phones and maintaining their unlock, but if you had to do a restore you would loose your unlock until quickpwn got updates.

He signed up for 2.x and also needs to pay the $99 to get 3.x. I do think however theron.roland's suggestion of making a new account we all have access to is more transparent.

If there are other people who want to sign up after we have opened an account I think they can pay the $10 and we can build up a kitty for the next beta that comes out :D

Ok. So far the people who have shown interest are as follows:

morkhans
limnos
theron.roland
Aqua_lung
fxit_man
renierp

Which means we have 6 ppl already. I have a friend who is already signed up on the dev program (for 2.x) so once we have the cash there is no wait for the account we just give him the money to get access to 3.x and we can have our uuid's added. He will also chip in so that puts us on 7. I have a work colleague who might also be interested.

So anyone else?

Although I would love to take part...
1. I don't have a mac, which makes it a bit impossible for me to use. Tried running Mac on my PC before, but I think I have hardware issues...couldn't get it running.
2. Like fxit, I also have an illegal immigrant from the states, so mines locked too.

Sorry guys!

You only need a mac if you intend to develop apps. The main motivation for most of us is a way to get our hands on the beta firmware where we are not dependent on a 3rd party who might not honour the deal.

If like you, you have a carrier locked phone, it is probably wise to stay away from the beta for now.

Strange, what OS ver you running - the specs say any ver of 10.x is fine.

Mac OSX 10.4.11 - no biggie, I've got a new mouse.

Sorry, I don't want to post inappropriate stuff on this thread, but I want to thank whoever suggested the higher DPI mouse - got myself a 5000DPI mouse this weekend and the thing just zooms across this big screen - awesome, finally can work on my Mac without feeling like I'm doing a wheelspin.

You can delete this post, I know this is about the iPhone and not Mac...

hmm... according to fixit, if you update in stead of restore, you don't loose the unlock, just confirm this

in this case you'll still have access to all beta releases

the idea here is, that once we're all members, I'll start looking around on how to VM mac osX, i know it can be done, i just know it's not easy, but once it's done, the VM can be replicated and copied for everyone, so then, you'll be able to get use from the SDK as well

ok, whoever can "guide" me is godly. So, i have an IPHONE 2G, and i have the iphone 3.0 firmware. now, if i update with itunes, will my baseband be updated to and ill never be able to use yellowsn0w ever again, because im on t-mobile. also, what i belive is that once the glorious dev team releases the 3.0 jailbreak ill be able to activate it with quickpwn, because thats what i did when i first got my iphone. sp please tell me if theres anyway i can update my iphone 2g and everything will still be hunky dory

Okay buddy, first of all if your on a iPhone 2G, you do not need to worry at all because the baseband doesnt get updated and first of all, how the heck are you using yellowsn0w on a 2G iPhone :S If you restore, you must activate and you need a dev account for that but if you press the update button and find the firmware and update, your phone will stay active and please note that the 3.0 firmware does expire so if your using 3.0 and it expires, you kind of out of luck until the next beta of 3.0 is leaked.

2G iphones do not need to worry about basebands. Update your phone, and run Quick PWN.

2G iPhones do not need a custom IPSW. Update your damn phone to 2.2.1 and run QuickPWN. Only the 3G iPhone needs to worry about basebands

Hmm... not correct. You need to UPDATE, as opposed to RESTORE. If you update, activation and unlock remains intact. I'm running 3.0 in my 2G now.

Hmm but i wouldn't take their word for it

On another note:

I read that to bypass UDID check, just make sure you have NO internet connection when the phone is in DFU mode when you are upgrading to 3.0. When the phone boots up you must be completely disconnected from the net so it doesn't check your UDID. THen you are presented with an emergency screen, restore your net connection and it works apparently!?

Also read that this doesn't work for iPhone's, only iTouch's. But you guys waiting for a dev account try it out!

2G iPhone unlocked upgrade to OS 3.0

Apple’s iPhone OS 3.0 Beta pre-installation advisory document states that once you’ve updated a device it’ll be in a “locked state” with no way of going back to an earlier firmware.

While this might be perfectly true for regular iPhones it has not been the case for one of my first generation development devices. I’ve been able to do the following:

  • Restore (not update!) to Beta 3.0
  • Downgrade by restoring back to 2.0 via iTunes
  • Jailbreak and unlock by using QuickPwn to custom 2.0 built
  • Update (not restore) to Beta 3.0

This particular device is now running perfectly on the Beta 3.0 release with unlock working fine – Cydia and Installer are obviously gone, as it has always been the case when applying updates.

To avoid confusion: I’m not aware of any solution, yet, that allows to jailbreak/unlock an iPhone running the current beta of OS 3.0. I did the following: I restored a first generation (not the 3G!) iPhone to the default Apple Firmware 2.0. I then used QuickPwn on a Mac to jailbreak and unlock. This gives me an unlocked iPhone 2G with Firmware 2.0. I then updated to the regular 3.0 Beta via iTunes.

The unlock is preserved, so the update seems to not wipe the modifications done on the 2.0 version. Effectively I’ve now got an unlocked iPhone 2G running OS 3.0 Beta. Cydia and Installer are gone (always happens during updates) but jailbroken apps still run!
