Doesn't work. Are you having difficulties sending MMS's? Is it trying to go through the normal 'internet' APN?

OS3.0 uses the same apn for mms as the one configured for tethering, and according to the config data I have on Vodacom you should be able toacces the mmsc via the Internet apn, wap1.2 did this and Vodacom still supports it

v3g might be able to put you in contact with the right person(s) at Vodacom. I am sure they should also be testing the new beta.

Can anybody please help?

I can restore to 2.2 but not to 2.2.1 Everytime I try somewhere along the line there is an unknown error. I got 3 different copies of the 2.2.1 firmware. the latest one fails when verifying iphone restore

thanx in advance

Sounds like a bust download: On my Vista machine the size when right clicking the file and selecting properties the details are:
Size on disk: 246 MB (258*359*073 bytes)
Size: 246 MB (258*359*296 bytes)

morkhans,

thats exactly what i have, where else can i get the firmware, downloaded it twice at home and once at work?

thanx

Strange then, should work. What version of iTunes are you using? Try it on a different machine maybe? And just in case you are downloading the right firmware for your phone (the 1st gen and 3G firmwares have a subtle difference in the naming)?

OS 3.0 MMS and Tethering on MTN & Vodacom

Hey Guys,

Not a big forum person to be perfectly honest, but you guys seem to be the only ones this side of the world talking about the new OS 3.0 and I think what I have managed to do you guys will be very interested in.

Downloaded OS 3.0 the day it came out and updated my iPhone, added my phone to a iPhone Developer Account (Has to be done to Activate the iPhone via iTunes). From my experience over the last couple days with the new OS all I can tell you is I love it, not at all worried about not having Installer & Cydia because I never download themes and the only thing I used was SwirlyMMS but no need now with the MMS built in, but I must admit a little buggy in some areas (after all it is a BETA) but overall an excellent update and I’m sure when apple release the public version in June, a lot of people will be happy with all the new toys.

The only problem was when I installed the OS 3.0 update I expected everything to work, but was disappointed to see that the MMS and Tethering features where well… non-existent. Eventually I got the s*its and started searching the internet for an answer, took me three full nights to find a way to sort this issue out, but neither the less I did it, I got MMS & Tethering enabled. MMS working 100% on MTN & Vodacom but I have a Windows machine so I haven’t figured out how to connect to the iPhone tethering yet. Will let you know as soon as I have done it.

What I did was I created two custom iPhone carrier bundles (*.ipcc) from scratch, one for MTN and one for Vodacom, all with the correct settings and custom carrier logos (See screenshots below...) and "Tell me what you think"

on both vodacom and mtn you'll only be able to get tethering to work by disabling mms, as both use the type-mask=-2 to identify which APN to use, and you can only have one apn with the -2 set

to tether with windows via bluetooth, you have to install either the toshiba or widcomm bluetooth stack, the microsoft stack that comes with windows does not have drivers for the iPhone's APN profile

hope that helps

i have the ipcc that works for internet, but, it's basically the same as the one you have for mms working, except, you move the type-mask=-2 to the iphone.vodacom.za apn in stead of the mms.vodacom.net apn

iPhone os 3.0 stereo bletooth profile working

while bored in traffic this morning I played around with the phone's bluetooth, have a bluetooth receiver in the car audio system that supports stereo profile and phone headset profile

at first it didn't seem to work, but then, made a phone call (to voicemail), and there you can select your audio source, phone was selected, so i switched to bluetooth, thereafter, the stereo profile worked, was playing music from the phone over bluetooth over the car audio

here's a screenie, the iPod app has a bluetooth icon next to the volume bare to show it's transmitting audio via bluetooth

I posted a full guide on the first page here WITH pictures.. even took the time to take screenshots and all...

yes, well, it's been established that people prefer to ask before they read... glad someone else feels my frustration from time to time

No prizes for guessing who would win the browsing one, but to be fair if you add up the the Nokia handsets it does total 22.6%

I am however very impressed with the mobile phone OS share. Who published those figures originally? While I don't doubt the iPhone's brilliance I am just a touch sceptical. Moving up 26% in market share is phenomenal

Welcome to the forum :)

Nice pics. I am patiently waiting for our dev account to come through so I can load up the beta. MMS is not big on my requirement list, but I am looking forward to tethering, new bluetooth capabilities and landscape keyboards.

Welcome iPhone ZN!

Please could you package you Vodacom carrier logo into a .deb file - if this is too much to ask for please just send the .png of the Vodacom logo to kastrogr at gmail dot com.

If you read a few posts back a few of us have contributed funds into theron.roland account so we can create our own iPhone Dev account. It's not too late to join, PM theron if you are interested so he can add your UDID to the list so you can get access to beta's that will follow.

Thanks morkhans,

I have a Motorola S9 so the A2DP support on OS 3.0 is what I always wanted for my iPhone, so cool to have a wireless iPod, and the landscape keyboard is also a very welcome change, makes life a lot easier.

Have you guys already applied for a iPhone Developer Account?
If not I can hook you up, A very good friend of mine overseas will add you to his Dev account for 10 Euro. (+-R130).

P.S. If anyone wants the carrier bundles, drop me a PM.
