The appstore stuff should be backed up in itunes but you'll loose the jailbreak if you upgrade including jailbroken apps.

This is what I'm going to do (I have the same setup): Upgrade to 3.0, you wont be able to see the jailbroken apps after that. Then jailbreak the phone (keep watching the iphone dev team blog for the official 3.0 jailbreak software), resync your phone, and then if you have any cracked .ipa files you'll have to replace the mobileinstallation file with the one for 3.0 (again, keep your eyes on the dev team blog or look for it on Cydia)....after that you should hopefully be able to see all the apps again. I'm guessing the ones that crash or don't show up won't be 3.0 compatible, so look for the compatible .ipa version and install.

[EDIT] I don't use many Cydia apps (just for SBettings and the ability to SSH so that I can replace MobileInstallation).

Nice one dude :mad: Now you've gone and make me want the new 3GS, I've been spending days convincing myself I don't need it, but after seeing that video I'm convinced it would be MUCH better...jees did you see how slick everything is? Damn I think it's actually 2x faster as advertised, and that voice control feature looks awesome!!
 
Just out of intrest, did vodacom ever bring in White 16GB iPhones? I wanted one from launch day but they only had black. I am very tempted to get The S but its only worth it if I get white...

Yup, they did. My colleague got her white iPhone about 3 weeks ago, she's actually pissed because they only had the white one (not sure where se got it from).
 
OK, I'm getting reports on Twitter that people's iTunes are starting to download 3.0, I might be able to pick it up before going home (suffering from interntelessness at home :( )

[Edit] That's from people in Austrailia, some reports says 30 min to go in the UK. Let's hope for some d/l links.

lol, well i promise you that 3.0 isnt that great. Have Beta on my phone with the vodafone_za ippc installed so I can mms , tether etc.

Hahah. Well spose yur right. If the speed hasnt increased and response with the apps the im ganna get the S. Lol sux to know theres a better iPhone than yours, but they are just to tempting. Do you think vodacom will use the same prices as when 3G first came ou for the S? I gotta top up 315 due for upgrade tomorow so im thinking that im ganna wait it out and see if I will beable to get the S, doubt it tho....

Dude, I thought of all the reasons why I shouldn't get the new one (I mean seriously, I don't need the upgrades and it's going to cost me a crap-load to upgrade)...but a few mins. ago I saw some videos of someone using the 3GS, and I have to say it looks slicker and faster than a french rapist... :D
 
Forgive my noobness... I've been out of the 3.0 loop but how do you activate 3.0 on a locked iPhone? i.e at&T 2G

Update from an activated 2.2.1 not restore?

Restore to a Pwned firmware (i.e. made with PwnageTool for mac), and then shift-update. It will retain activation then..

If you update from a QuicPwned firmware, you will lose activation..

If you need a custom 2.2.1 Pwned firmware lemme know. (although you will probably find lots on the net)

For those of you that backup your iphones with SSH what files are you pulling off? I want to do a full backup before upgrading and am not sure what I need. Do you just take the whole thing?
