does anyone have a mobileme account and a vodacom iphone? want to test the "internet apn does not support push theory"...

Push is (for the moment at least) APN independent. I can confirm that. I do not use the iphone APN because for some stupid reason data bundles do not work across APNs, and even though I have a 500MB data bundle bolt on, when I use the iPhone APN I am billed per Kb at R2/MB. I have used internet for a good few months now with absolutely no problems. I am pushing from MobileMe, Yahoo, and from Exchange Active Synch.

As a side note, the "find my iphone" service works very well. Was playing with it last night and it found me within a couple of metres. It is pretty worthless though because you need to have Push set to on : if someone nicks your phone, and immediately turns push off, they have access to your data... So in essence its the same as the Exchange 2007 wipe - it first needs to make an active data connection to the servers.

Fiddling with tethering now...

OKAY I HAVE GIVEN UP:mad: I have been trying to DL the update for hours now and my Iburst connection here at the office is up to SHYTE:mad:

Anybody in the Southern Suburbs or Milnerton (where I work) that has updated there Iphone 3G that would be so kind as to allow me to bring my phone and do the update?

The Apple Gods:p will smile on you. PM I leave the office at 18h00

Thanks

that's good news, thanx ScrnScrm

however, i've been on iphone.vodafone.za since day one, and my data bundle's been working fine, i've not paid a cent for data downloads, it's all gone off my 1gig bundle? strange?

TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST!!! :D before you end up with a huge data bill like I did. I have learned that assumption is the mother of all fluckups when it comes to Vodacom. One would think that bundles deplete from the same mommy account irrespective of which APN you use... but I can prove that is not always the case! Me thinks you should try internet first, then go online and check your bundle to make sure.

Roland had the same now. If I remove the MMS settings my internet work

this is because you're meddling with ipcc settings (the links all over the web to "enable tethering with safari" also update your ipcc)

all the guys out there are still doing it the same way they did up to beta 4, that does not work for us, it mucks up the general data apn's on the phone

they all just add internet apn with type-mask = -2 key in the apn settings, this is not correct, we don't know what the right way is yet, so hold on guys, tethering will work eventually, but trying to bump it now is just going to cause you frustration

enjoy mms and all the other awesome 3.0 updates, just stay away from tethering for now, I'm only saying this to save you frustration, i'm not secretly sitting with tethering working feeling all good about having something no one else does, i'll share it when i have the info

I have used both internet APN and iphone APN and both use my data bundle. I suggest you take that up with Vodacom support.

i've been using iphone.vodafone.za since november, and it's been working fine, so as for TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST TEST!!! :D , been there, done that

vodacom did stuff up my account one month though, they deactivated my bundle and everything went off as normal data, but it was working before that, and it's now working fine again after that, maybe you should try iphone apn again??

oh, and you can call the accounts dept. and dispute that bill, they fix it for you, and credit you the cash.... happy july mini bonus ;)

Bwahahahahahahaha. Bwahahahahahahaha. You got to be kidding????

@theron : funny - my data bundles were also messed up last month. I wonder if it was a general problem. They also turned off my CLIP and it took me a week of fighting with them to get it turned back on. Customer service at Vodacom is useless. I get more luck using internal contacts! Just checked again, and iphone apn does not come off my bundle. Anyway, its not serious - as long as it works I am happy!

Thats an idea :) We get a 20% discount on Vodacom that has also been missing off my invoices for about a year now. And considering my bill is way over R1000/month... :D

Thanx, suppose I need to restore to get rid of the tethering settings?

LOL please excuse the newbie a bit confused after reading through 315 pages ;)

no no, it was a genuine compliment, most guys respond to "you've now broken your phone" with "tell me how to fix it", you actually read a few pages back

must be an oracle dba thing ;) one of those myself to some extent

Ok, so next question for the clever guys! Where do you find the notes icon? If I do a search in spotlight, the notes appear there, but i can't open them!

So I think I know why my notes & stocks icons are missing. When I jailbroke a while ago I hid those apps. Now it would appear that they are still hidden! Wierd?!? Does anyone else have the same problem? Should I try and do a shift-restore and load a 2.x version and then reinstall 3.0?

try:

settings ->general ->reset ->reset home screen layout

if that doesn't work, restore firmware without restoring backup, or wait for jailbreak

hint: ALWAYS UNHIDE ALL ICONS BEFORE NEW FIRMWARE.....

Great! Well the home screen reset didn't work. So any tips on how to restore the firmware, without restoring the backup? Sorry to ask such a seemingly simple question, not too clued up on all these things...
