Great! Well the home screen reset didn't work. So any tips on how to restore the firmware, without restoring the backup? Sorry to ask such a seemingly simple question, not too clued up on all these things...

see oradba69??? TOLD U.... doih

i've posted this process over 3 times now, just read back

From Page 310 quoting Roland:

'Hi Guys, after a lot of confusion tonight, I thought I'd post this, first of all, there's two types of advice going around:

the guys saying that the ipcc's work for them either have 2G iphones, or no 3G reception where their phones are working, 2G phones, you don't have to worry, someone please confirm if mms and tether are available on these?

IPCC'S ARE A BAD IDEA FOR THE 3G IPHONE, as we've not figured out the correct config for the 3G phone since beta5 as yet

if you have applied the ipcc to your phone, I'm afraid you're going to loose all your backed up sms', no way around this

for mtn, vodacom, virgin or cell c:
restore your phone to 3.0 firmware by using the restore button on itunes, (shift+restore if you downloaded manually, just restore if itunes downloaded the files)
after the restore, DO NOT RESTORE YOUR PHONE TO AN EARLIER BACKUP, SET IT UP AS A NEW IPHONE
before you sync, disconnect the phone
go to settings -> general -> network -> cellular data network
enter the mms settings on the first page of this forum thread (mtn, leave user and password blank)
now turn your phone off, and back on
now test sending an mms
the first one takes long before it works, keep trying, mtn, cell c and virgin guys might have to have mms activated on their account, vodacom activates it automatically
once the mms sends, make sure you receive it as well
then reconnect your phone, remember, SET UP AS NEW IPHONE, and reconfigure your sync settings

sorry about making you guys loose your store sms', but, i did warn repeatedly not to use the ipcc's

fxit and all the others, please edit your posts with advise and/or links to ipcc's and remove them, you're going to cause a lot of people a lot of headaches'

From Page 310 quoting Roland:

i do have to add something though...

if your iphone has very little data on it (that is, no music, video's or synced photos), this process doesn't work so great, you have to sync at least a few things to the phone, otherwise it automatically restores past settings after a firmware restore.... if you don't understand what this means, you're probably affected

Guys, I've replaced my IPCC's with that damn internet install, but I'm going to leave it like that for now (with 'interent' APN that seems to work ok)....any really good reasons I shouldn't? (Don't want to lose my sms's and I don't want to resync 15GB of data :( )

Yeah I know, you're sick of this whole IPCC debacle, but so far I haven't found any real reason to not use the 'internet' APN, the only one might be the fact that any future iPhone network features might just work through the iPhone APN...

Did you use categories or something on your old version? Remember if you add an app to a categories folder and you do not remove it from the folder before you backup, when you restore that backup, you will lose all the apps that were "hidden" in folders

Believe you me, I learned this the hard way a long time ago, always before you do a fw upgrade, remove all apps from folders then backup, and then upgrade

Please help guys:

I have downloaded the latest 3.0 OS and updated itunes to 8.2

Now I need to install, but when I click on shift and press the restore button in itunes I get the message "There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone....." without even giving me the option to select the restore file.

Hi

I recently bought an Iphone and I am having endless problem with the phone loosing signal. Is this a common thing with the Iphone??

PS : its def not the network because I never had this problem with my previous handset (HTC).

PSS : Can you set the network search option to manual instead of automatic??

Nope have never had a problem with my signal, actually getting better signal than I used to get with my SE P1i

I updated via itunes to OS 3.0...

Synced my iphone...

Entered the MMS settings from the first page for VODACOM...

I am able to send/receive MMS & connect to the internet...

Either I'm missing something or am I lucky cause I am not getting the trouble or ever touched a IPCC file?

Well the problem comes when you want to enable tethering through the IPCC file, that is when the problem starts

Information

Roland,

Will your procedure (as posted three times.. :p) allow tethering to function as well on an iPhone 3G on MTN?

Oh man, he is going to rip you a new one

Hacking a ipcc file to allow tethering does not work

i installed OS3.0 and it worked fine. I put in MMS settings and restarted phone except the phone has not actually restarted, it has hung on the apple startup logo and hasnt changed for over 30mins now. The power button and home button does nothing to change this.

My battery is also fully charged.... :(

This is the first time i have had a problem with the iphone and i feel pretty helpless with no reset button or battery removal :eek:

I'll take it back and ask for a replacement. I only got lucky on the third phone..

Did you hold the power button and home button together for more than 10 seconds?

silly question (I'm sure) :

If I'm on a Jailbroken 2.2.1 at the moment, Can I just go ahead and upgrade to 3.0 or do I need to restore 1st

BTW I did try to search 1st but there's TMI
