Out of curiosity does it show when you use spotlight?

hey B

you had categories installed on your phone before right? camera was in a category?

restore the firmware, when itunes asks to set up as a new phone or restore from backup, then set up as new phone... you'll lose all your sms' though, just sync everything else back, and remember to set your alarms again (i forgot this bit, was late for work this morning)

alternatively, wait for the jailbreak, if you didn't have cydia in a category, you can just install sbsettings and unhide the icons again once the jailbreak is out

Nope, still can't get the camera back, even after enable/disable/enable it in the restriction area.

Only way to access the camera is through starting a SMS and selecting the little camera :)

I will have to use that until there is a jailbreak available!

Edit: Nope can't find the camera using spotlight

What is spotlight?

unlock your phone, you should be on the first page of apps, then press home button, black screen with a keyboard, that's spotlight, then type "camera"

Shall we go slap the WinMotards around with this list a bit? :p

...seriously though: it does show how much more detailed the execution of these 'years old features' is on the iPhone.

Yeah definitely SlinkyMike, it's awesome to see just exactly how much they focused on the inane parts of the OS this time around (and not JUST adding loads of big changes).... Just the fact that you can now select multiple images at once on the camera roll and that they've made the full screen delete a lot faster just shows that their R&D guys are listening (and using :D). There's LOADS of small things I've noticed since using 3.0. The only downside to all of this that I'm getting is significant "juttering" and slowdowns... I hope it's something they'll look at in future 3.0 releases (just as they did with 2.0)...the again, other users have been mentioning that 3.0 feels a lot more snappier, so I don't really know what's going on.

Is it possible to get tethering working on vodacom.

No dude, you can get it working but you're going to trash the settings on your phone and will inevitably have to restore the device as new to get the old IPCC (IPPC?) settings back (with trashing I mean you won't be able the use the iPhone Vodacom gateway again - just the standard 'internet' APN, and for future potential use it seems like a bad thing to do). Don't do it, just wait until (hopefully) Vodacom release their settings OTA.

I had a 100% working upgraded 3.0 phone Yesterday, and then with my impatience I installed a patch to enable tethering (which I didn't even need) and now I've lost all my settings, passwords, messages etc. stored on my phone....I can't even get the numeric battery icon back.... DONT DO IT!!!!

funny enough raptor, after your success with the iphone apn through that web settings link, i actually went and applied that to my phone as well, had a look at the content, it does exatly the same as my previous ipcc's, it adds the internet apn to the phone with a type-mask=-2 identifier in the apn settings, which sets it to the default apn

anywhoo, my tethering refused to work over 3G, as soon as I connect the phone while it's on 3G, the tether options just disappear, works on gprs though, and then, as before, data connection totally stuffed up, only works when it feels like it, which isn't often :(

so i really don't know how you got yours to work with the internet apn web activation

either way, did the set up as new phone thing again, and waiting patiently agian

i've noticed something else, with no settings changed on the phone etc, the data connection on the phone works great, until the phone becomes aware that there's an mms waiting to be received, then, until the said mms is downloaded, the data connection is all screwed again

this is particularly annoying for me, as the phone then looses it's sync with my exchange server, so the phone has to hop back on our corporate wifi before my exchange works again... pain in the @ss when you're nowhere near the wifi...

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA..I agree theron.roland...maybe we should not even respond to these posts...golden rule of finding help...GOOGLE first then ask!

yes, well, i've been saying this since the early posts on this forum, check the pages under the 100's, and boy was i told to play nice by the mods...

they've since given up on house training me

my bad, not under the 100's, but close.... lol

Naaah, I don't think it's a mystery at all, what happened is that I never actually got around to testing if the tethering actually works (just checked if the option was there etc.), the problem is I keep my notebook in suspend mode when I have a sh1tload of work to do, it would just take too long to save all my SQL scripts etc. at the end of the day....and this stupid HP notebook refuses to work with bluetooth/wifi after it's been in suspend mode (that stupid "touch LED" wifi button doesn't work after suspend). So yeah, I think it screwed mine up as well. I guess I've gotten too comfortable with the idea that everything on the iPhone 'just works' when it's there.. :(... MY BAD!

hmmmm.... the hint here is SQL scripts.... another dba perhaps?

things are only confirmed working when they've actually been tested, not when they theoretically claim that they will work later.....

BWAHAHAHAHA, seriously, just kidding around, don't take me too serious, you could have saved me a freaken restore though....

LOL ...you know what they say about assumption! I ASSUMED that 'web-fix' was unrelated to the changes you guys did earlier, there was no mention of it on the guy's site (unless I missed it, have a crapload of work to finish so I've been clumsy these past few days). Oh well, I guess it was inevitable that I'd have to restore from scratch sooner or later, I've just been lucky with upgrades/jailbreaking since I got the phone...so I had a SHEEEETLOAD of stuff stored. The upside of the story is that at least there won't be any garbage data lying around in the filesystem from earlier jailbreak apps like Cycorder etc. ...'cause I HATE using Open SSH to poke around the filesystem, if I wanted to do that I would've just bought myself a WinMo device...:D:D

P.S. Nope, not DBA, just ASP .NET development with SQL Server 2000 DB (yup, you read it, 2000 - time to press the DBA's here for an upgrade )

[EDIT]
things are only confirmed working when they've actually been tested, not when they theoretically claim that they will work later.....

HAHA...Trust me I know that, so I can at least accept the consequences, now if someone would be so kind as to relay that piece of information to our project managers who think a 2.5 year, R2Million brand new in house IT system will "theoretically" work, so we release at the end of the month...lol...WTF??! *smashes iPhone on the table and slashes wrists with the shards*

Also tried this last night, but on my phone, it worked, until I used MMS, then tethering would dissapear, after a reboot, tethering would be back again, but that is as far as I want to test, currently I trust pdanet just a little bit more (JAILBREAK!!!!!!!!)
