The iPhone Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Haven't seen any slower performance since installing OS 3, in fact, it seems apps are closing much faster when you hit the home button and opens at the same speed as before + Google maps seems to be on steroids.

I think Apple will be fine tuning OS 3 in the near future and we will have a few more updates.

I agree, I think the reason it feels slower now and then is just because there's a noticeable increase in "animation crashes"...but overall it's definitely faster. Another thing to note is just how stable Safari has become, ever since 2.2.1 I've never had safari crash on me, which is awesome, it used to be the most unstable app.

I cannot express how relieved I feel to have my jailbreak back and almost all of my err...*cough*..."unofficial" .ipa's work fine.

P.S. Ek laaik 'n appel kwaai! :D:D

For me too, my 3.0 flies. But I also did not just upgrade, I did a clear restore. Only irk I have with 3, is the apps that are giving problems, but that is 100% understandable, and the dev will work through them and fix them.

MMS works like a charm, and this morning, my tethering also worked on MTN (but I still can't use MMS and tethering at the same time, need to reboot inbetween). But tested it at work, running in 3g and also on wifi, and googled a bit without issue (think its perhaps because MTN's APN is internet for all settings, so the mobileconfig works....well works for a bit), but am still testing so can't really give a final opinion

Can I install 3.0 onto my iPhone via iTunes and then jailbreak?

Not sure about that, rather download the firmware from the iClarified website and install using itunes...

I updated via itunes from apple and the firmware file is gone, really don't know why...

Much safer option downloading the firmware from the iClarified website.

Which app are you guys using to be able to open the root?

OpenSSH?

OpenSSH just enables SSH support on the iPhone.

You then need to install a client such as WinSCP on the PC to SSH into the phone.

Easier alternative is to use DiskAid (once jailbroken) -Instructions on pg1

[EDIT]: I just noticed there's an option in SBSettings under "more->extras and options" to enable battery percentage

Mine doesn't have that oddly enough...

does anyone else have a problem with cydia crashing?
mine only opens like 1/5 times, the rest of the time it crashes while loading.
i'm thinking i need to restore...

fxit_man, it could be because I did this first:

1. Open Cydia and move to the Search section
2. write “iPhone-notes” in the search and install the repository
3. Go to the “Changes” and install the package called “asBattery”
4. Install it
5. Reboot iPhone

I guess SBSettings picks up on the changes or something.

Yes but not that often..

Maybe? Even updated it now, still no option.

Oh well the .plist method works perfectly :D

(only tested on my 2G, not sure if it works for 3G. To every1 else, try SBSettings extras and options first before this and MAKE SURE TO BACKUP)

hxc87x, mine did the same this morning, then I noticed it was because my data connection wasn't working for some reason. Just open your Safari and check if it loads a page, or just open the Mail. Mine gave me errors at first but then somehow my data connection popped back into existence and my Cydia's been fine since then....weird.

Hehe I know about the client you need to install but I didn't know if OpenSSH is compatible with OS 3.0...

Anyways thanks for the info fxit really appreciate.

Custom MTN Carrier Logo

1. Download the MTN Bundle from here - (quickshare was down at time of posting)
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?m5z2oimoaw2

The rest is quoted from Gothan in his email to me:

Gothan said:
People can just copy this to their carrier bundles folder, and then just create the symbolic link:

ln -s MTN_za.bundle 65510

65510 is MTN's MNC/MMC code

I tried it on my OS3 iphone and its working like a charm
