Guys, there's a free Push notification app. in the app. store called "Hey where are you : location service". It allows you to send requests for locations OR locations themselves from within the app to anyone also running it (via PUSH technology)

Anyone here interested in trying it out?... I just need someone that's comfortable with the idea of sending out their location info. You can remove the app when we're done (or remove me from the list of people allowed to request your location), I just want to test if push actually works here. I don't know anyone else with an iPhone so I can't test with family/friends

..ta - need to get more rest/hit the multivits harder, had a few 'tard moments lately.

Sorry, got it working now...
Sorry guys...

I'm sure no one will hold a grudge, just remember that no one here is paid to support your ****. Any assistance you may receive is someone taking some of their own precious time on this planet and giving it to you... for gratis so be polite and patient when asking for help.

haha...it's OK, I'm not a privacy nut, the email address is in my previous post, I'll just remove it when I get your mail.

LOL...WTF!!!! I can't get that authentication link to open :(
Tried on the hotmail site and my Windows Live email client.... it just doesn't open and I've marked your address as safe...aaaargh!!!

[EDIT]...duuuuuuh!!! I was supposed to open the link on my PHONE, not on my PC. The authentication link opens the app on your iphone and then allows follower access.

Hi guys got this email from vodacom.

Dear Xxxxxxx
*
Thank you for your e-mail communication to Vodacom.

Please note that the iPhone regrettably does not support the MMS service. MMS and tethering (phone as a modem) are not supported in South Africa as yet (version 3.0). These will be made available to South Africa with the next software release. Apple announced that only 29 carriers will have these features available on launch. http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/08/apple-shows-iphone-os-3-0-at-wwdc . SA was not one of the countries.
*
You are welcome to try the following settings:*
*
Go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network -> MMS
*
Fill in the following details:
APN : mms.vodacom.net
MMSC : mmsc.vodacom4me.co.za
MMS Proxy : 196.6.128.13:8080 *(Do not*insert any 0’s in front of the 6 and 13).*
*
Once completing the above settings, please*switch the*handset off and on again so that it may update with the new settings.
*
When programming the settings in manually you may get it to work but we cannot guarantee that the service will operate 100%. We therefore suggest that clients wait until the new version is released. This will enable clients to use the MMS and tethering service.*
*
Should you have any further queries, please contact us via e-mail at [email protected]
*
Warm Regards

Abigail Julius

Very interesting, strange how vodacom does provide MMS functionality, but "its not available" on the iphone model that actual has MMS

Hi Guys

I have confirmed and it is stated that APPLE decides on functionality, configuration & roll out to the various networks globally. Current indications from Apple is that this functionality will be made available during August i.e. MMS and tethering.

Thanks for clearing this up!

Any news on the SMS delivery support after the escalation in the UK?

Ok, so it's obviously the agreement between Apple and Vodafone? Apple supply all the updates.

Guess it does make sense. Thanks VCD for keeping us updated!

I have 2 confirmations:
1) Capetonians are cool
2) PUSH Notifications in SA work!!!! Yeeeaaaaah!!!

P.S. SlinkyMike: Open my confirmation email I sent you ON YOUR IPHONE (by tapping on that confirmation link)....that way it'll add me as a follower, then, close your applications and put your phone in standby. I'll send you a location update and you should be able to see it popup (like an sms)

It appears that Vodacom continue to be confused. The iPhone 3.0 software does support MMS and tethering. Whatever software Vodacom are running on their network doesn't.

If you follow the link in Raxton's post you get the impression that the networks had a choice to provide support at launch, not that Apple decided whether they could or not.

Yea-works really nicely. basically comes up the same way a calendar notification does.

TBH: I'm also not satisfied with the response, ti seems to be part fob off / part thumbsuck.

Done :)

[EDIT] Roland, send me an email invite too...(I want to check something, fourie_deon at hotmail dot com)

Remember the original deal was between Vodafone and Apple, not Vodacom and Apple. We only got lucky cos Vodacom belongs to Vodafone.

My MMS is working, so I'm not so fussed about the tethering....but will still do the update when it becomes available in August.

Happy days.

anyone else noticing there's no more fade screen, then lock screen? screen just goes from normal brightness into autolock...
