Please excuse the lurker delurking :D

WRT to MMS & Internet Tethering, I have posted the correct ipcc files for Vodacom & MTN on my blog in this post:

http://www.marcforrest.com/2009/06/22/enable-vodacom-iphone-mms-tethering-2/

It works like a bomb on Vodacom and the guys that have downloaded the MTN one say it works 100%
This is the carrier file Vodacom SHOULD have uploaded to apple when 3.0 was released.

Shout if you have any questions

R u using the vodacom ipcc? And you can MMS and then tether without having to reset any APNs in settings??

Quick question for those in the know, if you run an ipcc file on the phone, where is the settings stored? Is it still stored in carrier bundles or somewhere else? The reason I am asking is I am trying to find the place where carrier logos is stored after adding an ipcc file

Think the reason its working on MTN is because the APN for MMS and data on MTN is the same, so there is no changes after using tethering and then MMS

marcf, thank you for this, I'm assuming someone got hold of one of the partner carriers from iphones' correct updated bundles, and replicated the content into vodacom and mtn's

I'm trying this out now, but there's a lot in that carrier file that i've not seen before, it looks like the real deal, will post in a few seconds with an update

ps

i'm hoping i'm not going to have to restore before this will work again... doih

I have tested the one on MTN, and so far its working like a charm, tethering is instantanous, and the pc immedtiately picked up the phone as a network device

Yes, I am aware of that, thats why I was asking if it works on VC - Theron, your words are very encouraging - waiting for your feedback

tethering works over 3G, while mms settings are configured

i'm struggling to send an mms though... but the ipcc looks fine as far as i can tell, will upload a pic soon to prove the above, i'm thinking go ahead guys, looks fine... if u are nervous you can hold off till i get a damn mms sent

edit:
and mms sent, the phone cheated though, it forced itself off 3G and onto gprs to do it.... lol

i did notice the phone had 2 ip addresses at some point, this would be normal if it was connected to wifi, which it wasn't, it had a 45.xxx (vodacom data) and a 169.xxxx (looks internet 'ish), my home wireless is in the 196 range, i'm thinking the other ip was either from the mms apn, or it's the push service...

either way, this ipcc's for real, go ahead folks, and pop a thanx to marc (the creator)

edit2:

pic as promised...

notice, 3G connected, and mms settings are typed in, and the focus is off of the mms settings, meaning they've been accepted

So now what's Vodacom got to say about this???!??!?!??!??!?

Hi Guys

I have confirmed and it is stated that APPLE decides on functionality, configuration & roll out to the various networks globally. Current indications from Apple is that this functionality will be made available during August i.e. MMS and tethering.

Regards
VodacomData

clearly you are being fed the wrong information from some call center screen, it's a truly sad day when your customers have to do your jobs for you to get the service they are paying for

VodaomData, please relay the message to whoever is feeding you this bull, and get your company to get off it's rear end and now submit this carrier file to apple so it can be distributed to the rest of your customers via itunes

if you don't quite understand what it all means (and i'm sure you don't), here's the simple version:

THE FILE IN THIS LINK WILL ENABLE THE TETHERING AND MMS FEATURES FOR ALL VODACOM IPHONE CUSTOMERS ONCE SUBMITTED TO APPLE FOR DISTRIBUTION IN ITUNES

We have noticed that for a while after setting up MMS using the ipcc files, there is a delay when trying to send an MMS. Sometimes its up to about an hour, but after that works like a bomb.
Shout if you need a hand...glad to hear its all working :)

DAMMMITTTTTTT
I read that miPatch gave problems, mine was fine though. Upgraded to the new one now... black screen of death!
ANd i had many other issues as well (since i installed aptBackup, upgrade to 3.0 and restore)
Does anyone know if i can bypass it somehow that iTunes doesnt sync aptBackup stuff?
Just restored firmware, need to jailbreak now. Dont want to sync with itunes and get all that crap again, was too much a mission

Thanks Marc, much appreciated..

you can restore, just as long as you jailbreak with 0.7.1 you'll be fine, and don't run aptbackup's restore?

Phone is WAYYYYYY faster now after the restore and not upgrade (and no aptBackup)
Busy downloading cydia updates etc. Lets hope all goes well.

Roland, the new ipcc file in discussion - i assume I will have no use for it since I am using a 2G? Or is there SOME benefit in using it? (Logo? SInce MMS and Tethering will surely not work)

Aaaarrrgghhhh after the ipcc, I now have to find a way to change my carrier logos again!!!!! But thank the heavens tethering and MMs works 100%

I found a BUG :) try adding an address (via maps) to a contact and it over-writes the caller photo with a snap shot of the current position on the maps app :)

Learnt the hard way (updated wifes caller ID with a mapshot :( and the caller ID was the last photo I had of wife in bunny ears and tail :( )
