yes, but you do mention your apn goes blank after you exit the settings, the ipcc contains a fixed apn, that auto populates into the settings as if the carrier enabled it
 
does anyone know of a way to get a character counter in the stock sms app?
im tired of guessing whether it's all going to fit onto one page or not.
shot shot.

btw - that sygic looks cool. might just try it for myself =)

My APN always goes blank. I've restored my phone to 3.0 no hacks or ipcc's or anything and it is still doing it. Is this IPCC you speak of not going to cause issues like the previous ones did? Where can I find it?

Lol, thanks guys, seems MMS is up and running!
I think there is a bug on VC side though, snet MMS from vodacom4me site today, sent it once, received it 7 times! Im assuming it tries to send every hour, and then they get stuck in a queue somewhere. But at least it works! The others gave me a red exclamation all the time when it failed.

With Marc's ipcc, the APN is not blank anymore.

Just a side note... I sent an MMS to my GF now, (she has a nokia), and the image and text is not embedded into the MMS, but rather two seperate attachments. Probably not the end of the world, but could be cool if it was embedded

I also sent an MMS from V4me and only received the one I sent.

need some quick advice; I'm in Italy at the moment and they're selling unlocked iPhone 3G(s)'s for €619, is this a good price? Any news on local prices?

Its about R7000, i'd assume thats about the same you would pay locally. At most R500 more, but taking into account local warranty etc, I would say rather wait and buy it here.
But thats just my 2c worth, still your decision in the end!

first of all, TRY READING BEFORE YOU ASK, the guys on here who give decent advice don't get paid for it, so you might as well try yourself first

there's a link to the marcforrest blog in an earlier page on this forum thread

an ipcc is not a hack, it's a file that contains "iphone carrier configuration - ipcc"
data, i.e, your apn names, your mmsc/proxy, voicemail number, carrier logo etc

vodacom is supposed to provide these settings to apple, who then publish it via itunes to your phone, vodacom however, are to retarded and lazy to do so, so, a friend of marc's who has contacts at apple, helped us out with the correct ipcc for the latest 3.0 release, so, essentially, the mms settings (apn, mmsc, proxy) are embedded in this file, and will be put on your phone once you apply it

again, next time read before you ask

when the iphone 3G released, the 8Gig was about 7k, the 16Gig around 8k, so, if this is the 32Gig 3Gs, i'd buy it without thinking twice, you get the added bonus of having one of the first in SA

hint, just make sure you buy a prepaid sim from the operator you buy the phone from as well, the unlocked 3G in SA still had to be activated with a vodacom sim

this is no longer the case, i've activated one on os3.0 with an mtn sim, but this could very well change again, i'd get the sim just to be safe
 
For some reason IM+ or Beejive is draining batterly life like HELL. Push didnt seem to work in IM+ on my phone, so I turned PUSH off (for both apps), and batterly life kept suffering. (Down to 80% in 2 hours, with ONLY a 3minute phone call being made). I initially thought maybe the IPCC from Marc is giving problems, but seems not. After uninstalling IM+ and Beejive, battery life seems fine again (1% loss in past 35min).
I will test by installing one only and see which one is draining me.

I think I'm also just big mouth, coz i dont have the opportunity to buy it now, so I think a bit different now than I would when standing in a store with one in my hand. :D

it's not IM+ or beejive, it's push notifications combined with mms

that's my theory and i'm sticking to it

the phone has 2 apn's listed, one for mms, one for data, i'm suspecting there's an mtn mms waiting on the mmsc somewhere, so, the phone gets the notification that there's an mms, switches apn's to download said mms, download fails, phone switches back to data apn to re-activate push, realizes the mms is still waiting, goes back to beginning...

i've switched back to swirly mms as a result, that way, swirly shows you when it receives the notification that there's an mms waiting, but it only downloads said mms when you tell it to, so the data apn doesn't get swapped untill you actually open the mms in swirly
