Are these issues on a 3G phone? Are you sure you're not running any background apps via jailbreak? Cause that sounds like something that would give you guys a 4 hour battery life... These are not 3.0 related issues. These sound like phone specific issues.

Hmm...I don't know anymore dude. From what I've read a lot of people don't have these issues on 3.0, It might as well be something as simple as some app. I have installed or something. The only thing that's running non-standard in the background that I know of SBsettings. I'll try to uninstall the push apps later and see what happens. Oh, and yes this is a 3G phone, I've never had any other problems with it before, so I'll assume it's not a hardware fault...for now anyway.

No problems here on 3.0 (Jailbroken and iMPatched) some apps seem to cause the battery issue :) I ran the GPS app the whole day yesterday and battery was fine :)

hmm... well I can't really say for sure (I've been out of the jailbreaking scene since the app store was launched)

What problems have you heard about 3.0; I've been running it for months now, and with the 3.0GM I did notice a decrease in barttery life... but not the extent that you've been saying... My battery dies around 9pm after a full days use, with Push, Location services and 3G enabled.

I bought the Top Gun game last night - it's pretty damn fun!
Only $2.99, around 65mb though.

change your mms apn to "internet", see what happens then

My mms apn has been internet all along. I have now uninstalled all non essential apps from Cydia.

CyCorder
Winterboard
sBsettings
Facebook
Mxit & a few other MUST have apps are still on.

So my phone has been on for just over 75min and has lost 30% battery life. I do not really have any push apps on my phone.

FYI my phone has been on charge for the better part of 5 hours beforw I switched it on.

Do I restore OS3.0 & not jailbreak my phone to get battery life back? I LOVE Cydia & specially sBsettings. Why could Apple not have developed this functionality themselves  or do they know that apps like these will drain battery life?

The drainage is an issue, I visited the apple forum and many users are complaining about battery life, 2G and 3G, some are not even jailbreaking.

i've got a funny suspicion the baseband in the 3.1 OS will fix this, I think apple held back the baseband to see what the dev team does with an unlock

My battery life seriously decreased when I loaded some ipcc files. After restoring (with no ipcc installed) battery lasts a day or more :D

Recently, Apple has struggled with the security ramifications of a higher commercial profile, and seeing an increasing number of OS X malware. Now another security flaw has been found, this time in the iPhone OS. The flaw allows attackers to gain root access to the iPhone's underlying OS, allowing them to install and execute malicious programs at will.

The iPhone apparently automatically executes binary code sent in SMS messages. Messages are limited to 140 bytes, but this is little deterrence as longer programs can be broken up into several messages, which the phone automatically reassembles. While other applications such as the Safari browser on the phone only enjoy access to their sandbox, the SMS system is automatically granted root access, and SMS commands execute as root.

Charlie Miller, during a presentation at the SyScan conference in Singapore on Thursday introduced the vulnerability to the public. He declined to go into specific details or offer his proof-of-concept code to the public, as he has entered under an agreement with Apple. Mr. Miller did state, "SMS is a great vector to attack the iPhone."

He went on to describe several examples of how such an attack could prove beneficial to malicious parties. Among his ideas were to use the phone's GPS technology to track people, to turn on the phone's microphone to snoop on meetings or conversations, and to use groups of the infected phones to form a botnet and launch distributed denial-of-service attacks.

Apple will have a fix ready by the end July, it says. Mr. Miller says he will hold off on releasing details of his attack until then. He will present the attack in its full glory at the Black Hat USA 2009 conference in Las Vegas. Mr. Miller is the author of The Mac Hacker's Handbook, one of the leading resources for prospective Apple hackers.

He praises Apple's efforts with the iPhone saying that the stripped down version of OS X provides less attack opportunities. He says that lack of support for Adobe Flash and Java while an annoyance to users actually aid security, as these are traditional attack vectors. He also notes the phone's provisions to only run Apple-signed code and to provide hardware encryption as other promising features.

Many of these features were added in the new iPhone 3G S, but were not present in the iPhone 3G leading the iPhone 3G to receive failing marks in a recent security study. Mr. Miller concludes, "The iPhone is more secure than OS X, but SMS could be a critical vulnerability."

%£$^ .ipcc's!!!!! Why can't MMS and tethering work just like any other g-d damn phone! I'm installing SwirlyMMS for the time being till they sort this out!

1st things 1st. I just finished the restore on my phone ex Apple Itunes (took 4 hours to download Iburst:eek:)

The whole day I have had signal problems, MTN tells me it's there network.
Strangely enough after the restore, the signal problems disappeared.

I have decided NOT to load the ipcc (MMS & Tethering). I entered the mms settings manually.

Now for the long wait.

1. How long will the battery last?
2. If the problem is not resolved WHAT IS MY NEXT STEP:cool:
