this is also an mms related issue, if you blank out the mms apn your data will be rock solid again

My settings are blanked out. I use swirly so i receive the few and far between mms' that I get sent. I personally think that VC just need to do some upgrades on the system...

So last night i had my first official iPhone crash. Everything stopped working and springboard keep crashing, resulting in my phone booting into safe mode...Sucks to have happened but I thought this would have happened sooner considering the things i download etc etc. Oh well here is to a new fresh install and a speedy phone for the first hour...lol

Well I hope that MMS is sorted in 3.1, that is my biggest wish, I love the integrated SMS/MMS app. Have used swirly since the beginning, but after a month on the message app, I want my MMS as part of it again!!!!!!

Just read this about 3.1 stuff which I thought may be of interest: http://www.blog.hr/print/id/1626581378/what-will-be-new-in-31.html

Bug fixes

WARNING #1: Since the iPhone baseband will be updated to 05.11.04from the previous 4.26.08, this will mean that the ultrasn0w unlock method will be blocked. For those who want to have an unlocked iPhone on 3.1 DO NOT UPGRADE to 3.1 until ultrasn0w has been updated to work on 3.1 iPhones.

WARNING #2: Since AT&T updated the carrier profile version, 4.5 from 4.0. This is will terminate the popular IPCC tethering hack that has been going around on the internet because of the arbitrary-looking “signatures” that are now attached to MMS and VVM.

lol sure.. that's what they always say :D

But I don't run cracked apps anyway, everything I use is paid for so I'm not worried.

I don't think there would be a need for cracked apps, if you had trail periods with the appstore apps, but of course, once you buy it, no matter how crap it is, you are stuck with it

Unable to jailbreak

Hi All,

Newby question can you jailbreak a 3.0.1 version iphone

Next question... What is redsn0w? Google it. Get version 0.8.

I'm sure the boys at hackulo.us will find a workaround to that :D

I agree with you 100% on this. I always test out an app by getting the cracked version, then if it's worth it I always purchase it.

A perfect example was, IM+ or BeeJive. I wanted to decide myself which was better, and landed paying $9.99 for BeeJive :)

HELP!

Ok this applies to all the peeps that back up manually.

This is the third time I am restoring!!!!!! ARGGHH!!!!

Do you extract your iTunes Backup using Backup Extractor, then copy the required files (sms.db, AddressBook.sqlitedb, 100APPLE, callhistory.sqlitedb etc.......) to the newly restored iPhone

OR

Do you SSH before restore, then SSH again after restore?

Logically, I really don't think there is a difference, after all the files I extract are exactly the same after the back extraction..

What happens with method 1:
I cannot edit/delete any sms.db or Addressbook.sqlitedb file after I SSH to the new restored iPhone.

Example:
I delete a SMS. Exit the Messages.app. Return back into it and its still there!!! Same applies for my Call History and for AddressBook. It doesn't even sync with MobileMe! Even my CameraRoll.app f8cks out!

Please let me know if method 2 works for you guys, so I know for the future.

I am doing a clean restore now, and will sync with MobileMe. This means I have lost everything that MobileMe doesn't sync - all my pics :(

Ive only used option 2 before with no issues. Make a backup of file before the restore, restore, install openSSH and copy the files back into the required locations.

Even gone as far as once i have done the restore, before even opening the apps i restore. e.g. After restore I never opened the notes.app logged into phone over ssh, created the notes folder, placed the files in there and it works. No issues for me.

Hope you come right man!

I use an app called iPhone Backup Utility, its free, and it backup all the stuff you need, from sms.db to pictures and so on, even your cydia sources.

I've now used it 3-4 times and it works like a charm. And I also use pkg backup, it works a 100 times better than apt backup (only issue is that it refuses to download apps from xsellize repo and hackulous repo, but it does have a list of apps that you have installed, so its easy just to go and get those apps).

You can download the backup utility here : http://blog.inforall.net/wp-content/plugins/download-monitor/download.php?id=1

Glad your happy, for others interested I may be able to get the 3GS 16Gb's at a good price. Just waiting for feedback from my supplier.

Add me at the top of your list for teh 3Gs - pending "price approval" by my "government" - as she is about to "confiscate" mine ;)

Ay update on pricing? I'm about to drop R7800 on a 16GB tomorrow morning...

Whats your guys usage stats like on your iPhone 3G 3.0 with regard to battery life?

So far I have 5 Hours, 12 Minutes Usage

2 Days, 12 Hours Standby

And I still have 20% battery left.

3Gs : usage = 5H 36m, standby = 2d 13h, 31% battery left.
This includes 11.5MB of data on 3G (up and down), and 47min of calls.
I have noticed that the 3Gs SUCKS battery when the signal is weak - and I've been sitting with a k@k signal (voice AND data) for the past two and a half weaks.

Nowhere near my E71's battery life, but acceptable for what I've been doing with the 3Gs.

I'm guessing my problem is that i'm copying the files that are extracted from the back up, then SSH'ing into the folders.

I will try method 2 next time.

Let's say in /Library/SMS there are two files: sms.db and sms-legacy.db - do you only copy sms.db?

Ownerships error. The ownerships are not carried over when you manually copy the files back. They need to be set again.

In Mobile terminal (DL via Cydia if you havent got it) / Putty:
