Just went and grabbed it, very curious to see if it does actually improve battery life that much...

Please do report back, I had Push Notifications turned on the other day (for use with Appigo's Todo Lite). My testing showed that with same kinda voice/internet/sms usage :
Without Push: Battery 100% -> 88%
With Push: Battery 100% -> 36%
OUCH quite a difference, so must test Push again to see if I get the same results a 2nd time. Using JB 8GB 3G on 3.0.1.

Someone needs to figure out how to get tomtom SA maps onto the iphone app. :) It looks like an amazing gps app.

They are working like mad on xsellize to try and find a way to see if you can change or split the apps, not as easy as with sygic. There is no seperate folder with maps in.

I tried it last night, but to be serious, can't really find a use for it, I know its push, but last night, just to test I send myself an email (to my gmail account), and still have not received the notification, fetch has already returned the email.

And I am currently using Elert (cause I hate pop ups that expect and action from you before they dissapear), and with fetch its working like a dream, and the message is non intrusive, so until the guys that developed Tlert and Elert develop something like "Plert", I'll stick to the fetch method

mms enabled?? that's the main culprit, mms and push don't play well together

personally, i wouldn't want that, i'd rather just wait for the SA version, it has to show up eventually, couple of reasons:

  1. you WANT the live updates to maps/POI's, especially with the amount of roadworks going down all over the place, if you hacked a different map set, you can't subscribe
  2. SA version should be cheaper, as the map set isn't that huge
  3. support/updates etc, don't want to fiddle with map sets every time they release an update....

Yip, I agree with you on all points, except Nr 2, I am sure it'll be in the region of $90 to $100.

But of course the big question is WHEN? I emailed tomtom yesterday asking for an indication, but they still have not replied to my email

Hmmm ... I'm still using a cracked version of GPush to see if the stability issues are sorted out soon (I'm guessing all those first time users are sending test emails like mad, must be overloading their servers), so far I haven't had much success with the app. I'll give it a week or so... :erm: (Had the same issues with IM+ Push in the beginning and it's been working fine ever since they've sorted it out)

No MMS, havent touched the MMS settings or the IPCC stuff. Never had the need to ever use MMS before and not likely to need it. Will do some push/battery testing when I get time.

I'm using push and my battery life is not that noticeably different from when I have it off. I use push on my MobileMe too. Battery lasting me about a day and a half. I do have 3G turned off though (only turn it on when I need it). With 3G on I can still go a full day (but just).

I find that my phone credit is slowly eaten away by push notifications, only a couple cents at a time but if i left it on always it would add up to a lot. Anyone else find this?

I've also noticed push using up quite a bit of battery power, will try turn off mms and see if there is any difference.

Glad I get 250mb on my iPhone package - never used it all in a month either :cool:

Hi Guys,

I have had my iPhone for almost 1 year now. No problems, and very happy with the product!

Recently I noticed some dust underneath the screenMust be from all the recent off-road endeavors?

I did a quick Google on the subject and apparently there a quite a few users who also experienced this. Apple does carry a 1 year warranty, and did exchange these users with new phones.

Questions is, is this valid for S.A users as well? I don't want to book it in at Vodaworld only to be replaced with a refurbished unit, or even to be repaired (because dust will enter anyway once the device is opened)

I tried to get some help from the iStore in Menlyn, but they are useless/clueless.

Hmm ... I have the same problem... for now I've just decided to ignore the damn problem, seeing how "wonderful" our cellphone provider service here in SA is :rolleyes:

What thread are you following there so we can keep up?

Actually tried it last night for interest sakes with a south african TOMTOM, and the US version on the iphone, the map files are in a folder called North-America (on my tomtom, its in a file called Southern-Africa), but there are also a lot of extra files and one type of config file, which , I am struggling to open, to see where the files point to, but it was 10pm and I was tired so I removed the app, and decided to live with the question

EDIT : It seems that xsellize decided to close this thread this morning, so the link does not work anymore

Just to give some feedback, i decided to turn my 3G off and not use it. and so far the battery life seems to be just a little better. Im now in day two and have 64% battery remaining. Will see how it is by the end of the day to see if it really is worth turning 3G off with the thought of saving battery life.

My 3G is always off unless I need to browse or tether - SBSettings just makes it so easy. 3G sucks about 10 times more battery than wireless - you will see a difference.

Well keep going, I'm right behind you. I have done it on a WinMo phone before, but this is different. I did see a config file somewhere on the phone, I was browsing around using DiskAid, which lists map info, but haven't tried altering anything.
