K so can someone shed some light for me, cause this battery issue is bugging me!

I charged my battery up to 100% so I could so some tests whilst I watched a movie. These are the results:
Time----Battery%
4:37PM----100%
6:03PM---- 79%

Usage 1:11 Hours
Standby 1:27 Hours

During this time I did not touch my iPhone AT ALL! It was next to me the whole time and no one called or sms'ed (sad?). It was in use almost the whole time which is obviously draining the battery :(

I made sure before the test and straight after that no apps were running in the background except "Phone" and "iPod" which seem like they HAVE to be running even if I quit the process!

I would try a fresh restore but iTunes wont let me restore to 3.0.1 :( I remember seeing in this thread that if you put your cydia onto their file you can restore to 3.0.1! How do I do this?

This happens with the jailbreaked iPhones, happened with my 2G and only got sorted with the latest version of redsn0w.

As mentioned before, the US iphones are not worth it.

I have jailbroken it with the latest redsn0w!

+I have 3 friends ALL with JB iPhones and none have the prob! 2G,3G and 3GS all of which have the full battery life so....

and please stop with the useless comments of "I told you so"

OK, well then a restore is your only option I'm afraid.
instructions here...

Unfortunately:
If you encouter "unknown error (3002)", you probably do not have your ECID SHSH's for 3.0 "on file" with Cydia. Unfortunately, as Apple is no longer allowing users to sign the 3.0 firmware, it is no longer possible to register your device with Cydia.
thats me which means that wont work :(

but I found this guide:http://www.blogsdna.com/3911/how-to-downgrade-iphone-3gs-31-to-30-os.htm think it will work?

Have you tried search to see if you can get your file on Saurik's server? U still jailbroken and you have cydia installed right?

I don't know who the host name is... Don't have his iPhone with me now, and he doesn't even know how to get into his settings! I'll play around with it when I see him later. How would I disable IMAP?

Most likely (but this totally depends on his service provider) the only setting that would need changing (if he is indeed configured for IMAP) is the host name - IMAP usually starts with imap.someting......, and POP3 with pop3.something...., or pop.something.....

Do you know who his email service provider is? I'm sure the correct host names for the different mail protocols and other settings would be available either on their website, or can be found through googling.

It says they are stored for 3.1 NOT 3.0/3.0.1 :(

I just concluded some more tests which help a lot(think)

Results:
Normal:
4:37-100%
6:03-79%

Usage 1:11
Standby 1:27

Airoplane Mode:
96% at 7:00
96% at 7:14
95% at 7:46

Usage 0:01
Standby 0:47

I know that the Airoplane one was half the time but it only dropped 1% which converts into 2% if you take over the same time frame!
I know that airplane mode uses less battery but it cant be 18% less!!

What could be using my sim card while its sleeping?

EDIT:
After reinserting sim card:
93% at 8:00
91% at 8:07
90% at 8:15

Usage 0:14
Standby 0:15

My 3Gs(from Vodacom) is Jailbroken and I haven't had any problems with battery life. I've used purplera1n and redsn0w and it was the same both times with no effect on battery life at all.

No, after a restore, iTunes gives you the option to set the iPhone up as a new phone, or restore (not the firmware related restore) from a backup of your iPhone that iTunes made.

o.. well it does really help me then :(

I have set my sleep thing to never and it seems like my battery is lasting longer... maybe whatever is chewing my battery is only activating once my phone is sleeping???

Virus perhaps?

K so here are my different test results in order of best battery to worst:
P/H means "how much battery used in 1 Hour"
Airoplane Mode:
96% at 7:00
96% at 7:14
95% at 7:46
P/H - 1.3%

Usage 0:01
Standby 0:47

Leaving phone unlocked on lowest brightness:
100% at 11:10
88% at 1:10
P/H - 6.0%

After reinserting sim card:
93% at 8:00
91% at 8:07
90% at 8:15
P/H - 12.0%

Usage 0:14
Standby 0:15

Normal:
4:37-100%
6:03-79%
P/H - 14.7%

Usage 1:11
Standby 1:27

I can understand the Airoplane mode being the lowest. And the fact that when the phone isnt locked it uses exactly half the amount of battery.. which menas there is something activating when I lock the phone:( (And obviously it was "high" at 6% as it was displaying the springboard the whole time!)

Is there an easy way to list what cydia has installed? cant type it all out!

Dude, just return the phone and buy a NEW PHONE this time... I don't know why you bought a 2nd hand iphone from ebay. You could have gotten a brand new one for R1000 more on ebay. Seriously, stop waisting your time, email the seller and tell him that you are going to return the phone. Tell him that he should pay for the shipping. As easy as that!

Ok, well i've now tried Sygic, TomTom and Navigon...

Sygic is cool, awesome maps (for an app not available in SA), highway signage and so on very visable. Very configurable, only problem, it does not really integrate with the iphone (can't use address from your contacts and so on)

TomTom is very very configurable, basically everything is configurable, but I found it not very accurate, the maps also did not look as impressive

Navigon, the maps look awesome, very very accurate, available for South Africa (big plus, especially with POI updates), the only grips I have with it, its not really configurable.

Did try iGo, but that thing, has so many apps that it has a conflict with, I just gave up after awhile

So I have to say, so far I prefer the Navigon, if only for the reason, that its available for South Africa (bit pricey), but would gladly pay it for the future updates and so on

Cool. Thanx for the comparison. I bought Navigon a few days ago and love it. Always wanted TomTom but am not hearing many good things about it (besides that it's very configurable and integrates pretty well with the iPhone). It seems (in SA at least) that Navigon has better maps and is "prettier" :D:D
