I think we need a guide on the first post with how to get your phone out of recovery mode... I can make one tomorrow if you want. I struggled with it before I figured out how :(

it doesn't let you select whether you want to keep it or not...

the only option it lets you select is activate or do not activate (checkbox).

you talking about your own 3gs now yeh? cos the OTB 3.1 you gonna have to wait for jailbreak right.

Jailbroke & upgraded my GFs 3Gs last night. Couldn't stop noticing the free memory SBSettings was displaying - 130MB!!! wow! Apps open so much quicker too!
 
Hey fxit_man, I downloaded last night, backed up my phone this morning, ran iTunes, shift clicked for update, chose the file I downloaded, and it failed :( the phone then proceeded to go into rrecovery mode and install the standard 3.1 :) I now have 3.1 but no jailbreak, going to try again tonight, if that fails then I guess I have to wait for Devteam or one of the others.

you do know the 3gs comes with a stock video recorder much better than cycorder? Thought you had a 3gs?

ah man I'm sorry to hear that :( but you are in the same boat as me kinda. My 3gs is stock 3.1 no jailbreak as far as I know..

I'm sure it won't be long until jailbreak tool like redsnow is released for 3.1.

Wonder what you did wrong though. Don't think it was my firmware as i followed all iclarified steps. Will look into it.

im going to test your firmware tonight and then will see if I run into the same problem. Atleast with the 3G I can downgrade to 3.0 again
 
Does anyone know if dev team managed to resolve that problem where carrier name isn't displayed on pwnd 3.1?

Is it required that you add saurik's signing server to the host file before upgrading to 3.1? Also, after upgrading to the 3.1 firmware as indicated above, will cydia by default be installed?
 
I installed this one on my factory unlocked 3GS. Worked perfectly. I liked the part that it had the latest baseband and patch preinstalled to sync cracked apps. See below. Taken from http://www.xsellize.com/showthread.php?t=65846

Guys, I read that if you restore to 3.1 JB using the unactivated ipsw created by pawngeTool 3.1.3 then Push Notifications won't work.... So how do one get the push to work again?

I found this, will it work?

this is incorrect

as long as you use itunes to activate your iphone, push notifications will work

if your iphone starts up already activated after the restore (not activated by itunes), your push will not work, there is no known working solution for this, this is why you should buy iphones from vodacom

Push Notifications on all hacktivated iPhones will not work.

Yes 3.1. Her iPhone 3Gs arrived yesterday from Vodacom direct.

No. The only way to sort this out is to upgrade from 3.0 to original 3.1 and then jailbreak 3.1 with Custom firmware. This is what i did, and I got my Vodacom carrier logo back.

This didn't work for me. I kept on receiving 1600 error. I hope fxit increased the root partition size cos anything below 695MB also popped up an error.

I had to put it in DFU mode, not by myself, but with the help of PwnageTool (Windows users can use old QuickPwn). If i didn't use PwnageTool to put the phone into DFU, It never came upwith the white boot screen before upgrading, and would pop up with a 1600 error.

Let me know how it goes...

So when I plan to upgrade to pwnd 3.1 JB, I should use the unactivated ipsw, and then ultrasn0w?
