Ok I had issues getting my SMS's(message centre number MTN - +27831000113) sent and I wanted the voicemail button to work.

So I tracked some fixes for myself :

Any command can be preceded by *#, ** or ##.

*# is INTERROGATION.
** is SETUP.
## is CANCEL / DELETE.

*#5005*86# * * * * * * *Displays the Voice Mail dial-in number.
**5005*86*VOICEMAIL# * *Sets the Voice Mail number to VOICEMAIL (international format).
##5005*86# * * * * * * *Erases the Voice Mail number from phone.
*#5005*7672# * * * * * *Display the SMSC Setting.
**5005*7672*SMSCNUMBER# Sets the SMSC to SMSCNUMBER (international format).
##5005*7672# * * * * * *Erases the SMSC number from phone.
*#5005*5264# * * * * * *This reads LANG and tells you the "actual language" (en).

I wonder how true this is:
Presenting: ferociousbird! Today the ferocious bird is out of it’s cage! When Apple released the iPhone 3.1 update on September 9, many iPhone users foolishly updated to firmware 3.1 and were stuck without an unlock. ferociousbird is a new soft unlock for baseband 05.11.07. It will work on all iPhones including iPhone 3GS OTB. Can you hear the bird flapping? This is the ferocious bird, it won’t give up without a fight Apple!

UPDATE: Update without any problems ;) Busy Restoring backup.. :)

mmm, after updating with the "Activate UnChecked" custom firmware from fxit_man, iTunes asked me if I wanted to restore form a backup, or setup a new phone. I selected restore from backup. Never did it ask me to activate the phone? I wonder if push will still work now... Syncing apps now so will then test.

UPDATE: Push Notifications still working perfectly! :) Great stuff!

Can't keep up - Apple have now released 3.1.2... geohot reckons blackra1n will still be able to jailbreak it... Won't bother waiting for DevTeam's release - i'm pretty excited to try out blackra1n - i love all this competition :)

I'm guessing blackra1n will only be released for Windows machines, no? i haven't seen anywhere what OS supports it...

windows and mac, same as purplera1n, should release tomorrow sometime

doesn't ask if you want to activate, it activates it when you connect to itunes before it asks you about restore from backup or set up as new phone, you would have seen a message on the phone screen saying 'activated'

Ahhh! Yes, i've seen the message on my phone that says "Activated" Actually, it pops up every time I reboot... anyways, everything works so far, except swirlymms 2.1.3. But I'm not worried about swirly, i'm using BiteSMS and mms shows up perfectly... :)

should only pop up when:

first reboot after restore
while connected to usb/itunes

shouldn't pop up on any following reboots

Yes, you're right.. I just rebooted and no popup... it did however popup every time I was connected to itunes...
 
OK... I noticed that I cannot send mms'e using the standard messaging app on OS 3.1... I can receive just fine...

Anyone else having problems with mms using the standard messaging app? PCsToGo?
 
Mms on VC network is sketchy when using the native apps. Only app that worked for me was swirly.

I wouldnt knoow.. I dont care for MMS... but can fund someone to send one.
