FOR THE LOVE OF GAY PEOPLE:eek: All I want to do is use SKYPE to talk ver 3G. I really dont want to reprogram my entire iPhone :p

I will wait for FCC decision to filter down to SA and then use it. I restore my phone often and would hate to do ALL of that everytime I mess up :D

Thanks anyway:)

It's really not that hard man... I can send you the modified file, all you need to do is replace yours, then WHALA!

Do you guys get the picture of Geohot when you try jailbreak? I've got a vodacom 3G and it just gives me the picture that asks to connect to itunes. I've re-downloaded blackra1n 3 times now, restored 3 times... I'm pretty close to just giving up on this.

Check up a couple of posts, try the power cycle trick, it worked for me.

Yes. As far as I understand this won't unlock the network lock but it will jail break... Am I making sense?

blackra1n is a jailbreak tool for phones on apple's firmware only, works for all firmware up to 3.1.2

if you have a network locked phone, use pwnage tool, latest release of which is not yet available (3.1.2 unsupported as yet, 3.1 supported)

see iclarified.com for tutorials

Thanks, but I've tried this... Still not working.
I'm done for now. I'll wait for something else to come out... I've checked the blogs and there seems to be quite a few 3G owners with the same problems...

blackra1n: iPhone 3G fix for issue where phone stays in recovery mode and blackra1n keeps displaying "running" indefinately:

Launch itunes while this is happening, it will refresh the recovery mode and blackra1n will finish

if this does not work, close itunes, leave blackra1n running, reset the phone by holding power + home untill apple logo appears, blackra1n will now claim to be finished, it's not, without disconnecting the phone, run blackra1n again, and click on maike it ra1n

this time when blackra1n says it's finished it actually is

please let me know if this works, need to redo the 3G i was trying, it's owner has just left, so will do it later

O.K. have found the sequence for Blackra1n, as follows.

1. Start BlackRa1n
2. Wait for iPhone to show iTunes and connect logo (Recovery Mode)
3. Cancel BlackRa1n
4. Start iTunes, you should get message about device in recovery mode. DON'T CLICK OK
5. Leave iTunes open, at the OK prompt
6. Re-start Blackra1n, and start process.
7. and 30sec later jailbroken :)

3.1.2 Update and jailbreak tutorial for VODACOM UNLOCKED IPHONES ONLY!!!!, THIS IS A JAILBREAK, NOT AN UNLOCK

Both are Vodacom phones, so unlocked. So which method would be the better one? :o

this tutorial works no matter what state your phone is currently in, you do not need to be jailbroken on a lower version, nor do you need to do a clean restore if you are already on 3.1.2, this works even if you updated from the standard apple 3.1.2 by accident

download 3.1.2 firmware (skip this if you already have 3.1.2 firmware on the phone)

3G Firmware 3.1.2
3Gs Firmware 3.1.2

one phone at a time:
  • if already jailbroken, launch cydia, install aptbackup, close cydia, run aptbackup, choose "backup" option, skip this step if not jailbroken yet
  • connect phone to pc, do an itunes backup
  • do shift+restore in itunes, browse to the downloaded firmware (skip if phone already on 3.1.2)
  • let the phones restart and activate in itunes, after activation close itunes (skip if phone already on 3.1.2)
  • run downloaded blackra1n, click on make it ra1n, for iphone 3g, if "running" is displayed for more than 1 minute, download blackra1n again, the older version was unstable, fixed in new version
  • wait for phone to reboot, then run blackra1n on the phone (new app instaled)
  • in blackra1n install only cydia
  • run blackra1n again and uninstall blackra1n
  • open itunes and restore the phone from it's backup (not firmware restore, phone data backup restore)
  • on phone, run cydia, install aptbackup, close cydia, run aptbackup, choose restore, wait till reboot (skip if phone was not previously jailbroken)

iPhone 3G troubleshoot if running is displayed for more than a minute with no change on the iphone:
you have the older version of blackra1n, download the new version, there should not be any more issues

you on mtn?

for vodacom, no ipcc's needed anymore, built into firmware

3.1.x ipcc need to be digitally signed, so applying them has no effect on the phone, tethering not supported on non-vodacom networks, sorry

might be available in settings -> general -> network, but don't hold your breath

STOP FIDDLING WITH IPCC'S, OLD NEWS, DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE

Thanks Roland. I messed up again. in my stupidity I ran blackra1n now my phone is stuck on the screen where it says i must plug into itunes  WTH must I do now? :-(

if the first, read the 266 word tutorial three posts up, reading in general is quite useful, didn't spend that much time typing it out for lack of anything better to do, i knew these questions were coming....
