ok so i still cant believe it...

I changed the cable to a different usb on my mobo and took out the USB extension...and waala, Geo's face appears.
 
My blackra1n experience:

First JB on a 3.1.2 3GS worked 100%

I then upgraded two 3G iPhone to 3.1.2 and for the life of me it couldn't JB - kept on remaining on 'running' and Recovery Mode.

I cleared ALL my cache in Windows and re attempted. All worked 100%

Haven't tried changing USB ports, but clearing the cache works like a charm!

Quick question that I have not been able to find a VERIFIED answer to:

"Are Vodacom 3GS iPhones NETWORK locked or NOT ?!?!?"

"What about the normal 3Gs???"

Let me answer you before theron.roland bites your head off.

ALL IPHONES PURCHASED FROM VODACOM ARE OFFICIALLY FACTORY UNLOCKED, THEREFORE THEY ARE NOT NETWORK LOCKED.

You can upgrade to 3.1.2 and use blackra1n to JB.
 
All seems like a pretty easy process to use blackra1n, thanks to all the early adopters for guides, tips & tricks. Will find the time to upgrade etc soon.
Two questions:
1. I've read (but only questions no answers) that you have limited access to the filesystem now? (I use SSH to get in to tinker around) - can anyone verify this? Not too serious if only certain areas are accessible.
2. Does fixit_man's cooler, colourful Vodacom Carrier logo work? (maybe this is kinda linked to Q1)

I accessed my iPhone over ssh last night with blackra1n and was able to restore my sms, addressbook, safari etc and not have any issues with it. So yes we still have ssh access, as for the degree of what we can access, I cant tell you.

It seems to be a preoblem with iPhoneBrowser as blackra1n doesnt add the afc2 service at jailbreak. This link will give you a short walk through on how to correct it.

More specifics around which cache/caches exactly? Please?

I use both, the reason I have rock installed is that I use elert and tlert, and you only get them on rock.

But remember you can also install rock from cydia, there is a rock app in cydia that is hosted on modmyi.

I'm with you on this one, and for me being on mtn, there is not really any advantage to going the 3.1.2 route (although the "sleep mode" bug fix in 3.1.2 could help me a lot).

Now if I can get proof that the memory management in 3.1.2 is a lot better that 3, I would surely consider it, but following the threads on xsellize, I'll also wait for a while longer
 
Can anyone send me a link to the fxit_man's MTN carrier logo? Link he provided doesn't work anymore.

Hey guys, im getting a lot of errors while trying to install SBsetting? "cannot connect to host" Anyone else?

Also nice repo's to add to cydia!?
