That's a bit of a generalization isn't it? I know of at least 3 other people who had the same happen to them (in fact it was my father who brought the matter to my attention).

But let's say I'm wrong, care to explain how 4 people managed to replicate the "issue" by following the steps that Google themselves published?

Just did a complete redo to test.

Sync settings in iPhone

Note how only Inbox is pushed.

Sync steps used

IMAP enabled server-side: Inbox pushed, notification sound plays. All Mail synchronized shortly thereafter, notification sound plays again.

IMAP disabled server-side: Inbox pushed, notification sound plays. All Mail not synchronized until label opened, only then does notification sound play.

Tested this on 3 different iPhones and 3 different email accounts.

So, anyone who is experiencing this double notification situation, disable IMAP server-side (via the Gmail web interface)

EDIT: I'm not going to argue about whether it happens or not. If it doesn't happen to you, great. However I posted a solution for those of us that do have this happening to us (confirmed on 5 different iPhones with 5 different Gmail accounts thus far).

The iPhone doesn't support Push for GMail yet as MobileMe does... You are probably confused with Google Sync. This is setting up a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Protocol. This works well. OR you can use an app such as GPush (there are another 2 I think) that will push notifications to your mobile every time you receive an email in your Inbox. That is correct I use this but I get get instant notification of new mail. I have tested it and with in5 seconds of sending a mail I get it on my iPhone :D any faster will be ridiculous :)

ActiveSync syncs within 10 seconds on my iPhone, it's brilliant :D
 
QUESTION TO THE MODS

WHEN IS THE iPHONE section going to be setup:mad:. OMG :eek:what do we have to do to make this happen? The BB has a section for that crap excuse of a phone. @Bwana, The_Librarian and company instead of doing whatever it is you are doing SETUP the freaking iPhone section. This thread is so clogged with duplicate questions and queries cause people cannot find at click what they are looking for. Roland & Fxitman has been legendary in there support to all of us but get frustrated when the get repeat question. "grrrr" can be seen many a time from Roland.

I'd post the Gmail double notification fix there but seems the jury's still out on whether I was being an idiot or whether it's a legitimate issue :D

:D Hmm yeah.. I did it anyways... Would have thought google would have mentioned something about it but you still may be right.. who knows..

I actually got the solution from the Google Support forums, was posted by a Google employee. Now if only I can find that thread again... :o

All I know is that I've seen it happen on 5 different phones with 5 different accounts and it went away when IMAP was disabled so it's a start.

Haven't jailbroken my iPhone yet, do I still need to post the springboard? It's more or less the standard layout :D

lol you don't need to do anything. just thought it would be cool to put a springboard to the usernames :)

So... I just reinstalled OSX86 10.5.6 LEOPARD on my Packard Bell netbook, works perfectly :) VGA & Network working... Just need to get audio going ;)

lol

well, i have a work active sync account, so do gmail push via gpush and it's set to fetch via imap (the standard gmail account option)

my sister has her gmail on exchange though and hasn't mentioned any issues

fxit, the mapset in the apple app store "tomtom southern africa" is not the same as the one from xsellize, any chance we can get our grubbies on the official one?

i know of someone who's purchased it, but can't seem to get a hold of his iphone long enough... lol...

happy to contribute if we want to make a purchase, but, i'm leaving SA permanently in a few weeks, so don't see the point in buying it for myself
 
Hmm yeah only chance of that happening is if someone that has purchased tomtom SA here would be willing to contibute the map files. They aren't huge, only about 30mb or so.

I don't know that many people with iPhone and the ones I do haven't bought it.
