The WiFi disconnects after a little while when the screen is turned off (to conserve power).

How does this effect push email then? Do all incoming emails get downloaded using 3G even with wifi on?

I know the actual push will come through using 3G - not sure if it then tries to find a wi-fi network before actually downloading the network, or if it only connects to the wi-fi network when you turn the screen on again. Nonetheless, your phone automatically downloads a certain amount of the mail depending on what connection it is using - using GPRS, downloads very little of the mail; 3G, uses a little more of the mail; wi-fi, downloads even more of the mail...

Don't see the point - you can tell itunes not to bug you with new firmware messages and theres no guarantee apps will work if not made for your actual firmware

Indeed there is - iLog. Not free however and not sure if it's updated for 4.1. There's a trial though which you can give a try, not sure how it owls though.
