Manchester United defender Wes Brown has agreed in principle to a new four-year contract worth £50,000 a week, according to reports.
The 28-year-old England international, who has started 41 games in all competitions this season, could have left the Old Trafford on a free transfer when his current deal ends in June.
The season-long absence of injured club captain Gary Neville has given Brown the chance to secure a first team place this term and put the defender in a strong position to negotiate his new contract.
Brown, who joined United as a schoolboy 14 years ago, is expected to sign the new deal in the next two weeks after talks reopened following a six-month stalemate.
The defender had threatened to sever his ties after months of haggling but will now remain with the club he joined on YTS terms until beyond his 32nd birthday.
Meanwhile, fellow defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed there are still one or two issues to iron out before he signs a new contract at Manchester United.
The 29-year-old's representative, Pini Zahavi, this week claimed Ferdinand had agreed a five-year deal thought to be worth £130,000 a week.
Ferdinand told MUTV: 'It's nearly signed, nearly.
'We are still talking over a couple of things but I'm sure it will be sorted out before the end of the season.
'It will be a proud day for me, definitely, when I do sign a new contract.'
The England defenders insists he has no desire to play anywhere other than Old Trafford.
'I'm enjoying my time at United, I love being here and that's not changed,' he declared.
'Being part of a successful team is great and to be part of the tradition that goes along with that is an honour in itself.
'To have the opportunity to stay here for another four or five years would be fantastic.'
