The Mazda CX-5 Thread

Going to be looking to pick up a second hand CX-5 in the next few months. My only requirements are:
• min age 2017 (post facelift)
• leather interior (which probably means I have to look for at least the dynamic spec)
• Automatic

@current owners, anything in particular I need to look out for, like know faults, previous recalls, etc.?
Would appreciate any feedback.
Sounds like mine. I picked up a 2017 auto a few months ago. Sweet car.

Mine is really just doing what it promised, it’s car with space. And the interior feels upmarket with an automatic box that does what it is meant to

Mazda plans to bring turbocharged petrol engines back to SA

The managing director of Mazda Southern Africa has dropped a heavy hint the firm plans to once again offer turbocharged petrol engines locally.

Speaking during a media briefing at the launch of the new Mazda3, Craig Roberts said the local arm of the Japanese automaker intended to re-introduce turbocharged petrol engines to South Africa “at a certain stage”.

Currently, the local range comprises only naturally aspirated petrol units and a handful of turbodiesel powerplants.

“In terms of turbo technology, there are plans afoot here and in Hiroshima [Mazda’s global headquarters] for us to actually move back in that direction,” Roberts said.

“We’re just not sure of the exact timeframe and which models they [the turbocharged petrol engines] will be introduced in,” he added.

Interestingly, though, Roberts ruled out turbo power for the new Mazda3, the CX-3 and the upcoming CX-30.

“There are no immediate plans to introduce turbo engines to our C-segment vehicles nor to our small SUVs,” he said.

That last comment suggests the CX-5 would be the most likely model to benefit from forced induction.

Well my engine oil level too high warning is back. Less than 2000km after the service :(

Maybe I should get rid of this thing if it’s going to be a constant battle taking it in all the time. Not happy.

I too had the engine light on my 2015 2.2D Auto Akera. Mine was to replace the oil. Dealer said the gadge was set to the US miles and the reason for the light instead of our 15k km. They just cleared the code and all good. No issues so far. I've read online that the guys with Diesel engines have your issue and seems to constantly have those issues.

Hope mine does not give me trouble as my km's are on 60k now.

Hope you can maybe trade in for a petrol version.

Wanted to get my Android Auto upgrade done with my service last week but was told I need to book that separately, so now I have to take another day to get that done :(

Maybe be its dealer specific, friend of mine had his done when he did his 15000km service. Was at Clearwater.

Ideally I would like to trade in for the 2.5L turbo variant but I don’t think we even get those models. I didn’t enjoy the driving the other non turbo models so I’ll likely change brand. It’s sad I like my car but this is a serious design flaw to get a better emissions rating.

I think I’m going to have to, my cars now been at Mazda woodmead for over a week. They say they think it’s fault injectors or a rail? After 15000km? Seems insane.

I need to address the slight elephant here:

The Gen 2 CX-5 has been a major hit for Mazda SA. It's their top selling model month after month! It's killing it in the SUV sales charts locally (as well as places like the UK & Aus).

I like to think all of them are incredibly reliable. Is yours just a mild lemon or too early to say?

Don't think it's a reliability issue the car wants an oil change before the 15000km intervals or is it 10000km on the diesel? Either way it shouldn't happen

I've heard oil dilution is a known problem on the very first skyactv diesels that was fixed with a software update. Initially it was fixed by bypassing the DPF by 3rd parties.

It was a teething issue on gen 1 that I think was completely resolved. This is what I heard, i have petrol so no first hand experience. But i know guys with the diesel and this is the first person to have it on a gen 2 that I've heard.
