I dont think the mother will be happy that the law avenged her sister by killing her son.

Death Penalty definitely isn't the way to go: it's expensive, it's irreversible and it hasn't proved effective (by this I mean when comparing crime rates) in countries like America compared to places without it such as the majority of Europe.

"Thou shalt not kill" from original text refer to premeditated murder without reason. The death penalty as a corporal punishment by a government is a righteous killing by LAW. God accepts it irrespective of what you think about it.

Our Waleed should have thought about his mother. There's a debt to be paid. He didn't rob a bank, he didn't try to evade SARS Copa, he raped and murdered his aunt. He deserves to die. I'll even volunteer to be the executioner... I feel very very strong about this.

The thing is, in isolation, yes, in a sense I agree they deserve to die.

But nothing happens in isolation. Our justice systems are highly fallible, and mistakes are made. There is no excuse for even one person to die who was innocent, and this happens alarmingly often. More people get hurt when people are put to death, what's the point then, aside from raw vengeance? The death penalty does not work as a deterrent, the only thing that's going to make a difference in a social respect, is dealing with poverty and a lack of opportunity and education.

The couple of violent loons we have, should be securely locked away. All the arguments for the death penalty are highly connected the state of the justice system, and a justice system that is working, will be able to keep people incarcerated, without the need to kill them. If this is not possible, it's certainly not a system I'd trust with people's lives.

God can accept it, you can accept it. That's fine. I do not, as I find it highly morally objectionable, by using my own brain.

Judge, jury and executioner, you know people like you used to kill people like me? I suppose Christianity has a long history of slaughter...

I know what he did. I just have the common sense to understand that more killing never makes anything better, your appeals to the authority of god, the bible and government do not make it right.

You'd find that most if not all pro death penalty supporters can't wrap their heads around this. For them when the penalty is back, it would just magically work without a proper system before hand.

+1. We can't expect to fix our current justice system by replacing it with the death penalty. If its not managed properly now, imagine the amount of stuff ups we will have with the death penalty?

I remember a woman (senior citizen) in Swellendam yrs ago dying the same way - but between the rape and the murder, they shoved a 1L glass Coke bottle up her vagina.
