The Nicholas Ninow Rape Case and Trial

It has more coverage because it happened in a popular restaurant chain in which many people would think their kids are safe. Not out in the street or some random place / someones home.
Exactly, it happened in public meters away from people in a family restaurant. Naturally it's going to get loads of media attention

Why the #DrosRape shouldn't shock us
The rape of a six-year-old girl by a man in the toilet of the Dros restaurant in Pretoria has produced widespread shock waves across South Africa. The shock seems to be related to the fact that the victim was a child. As Deborah Posel argued more than 10 years ago, the rape of babies and children who are regarded as “morally innocent and defenseless” has become “a national obsession, and the focus of overt public anguish and political alarm”.

...

The fact that we are angry and horrified about the little girl’s rape does not protect others who are raped. In fact, when the physically violent rapes of “morally innocent” victims becomes the standard by which we measure rape, the grip of rape culture tightens. The children (and adults) who are raped in their homes by people they know are left out and silenced. Those whose rapes do not leave them covered in blood, bruises and broken bones are ignored.

We are shocked that the rapist denied the rape, despite being caught covered in blood and locked in a toilet cubicle with the child. He said that he was just helping the child, not raping her. We should not be shocked. Every day men get away with rape. They become presidents. They are nominated as Justices of the Supreme Court. They are not held accountable. In this context, why are we surprised that a man thinks he can rape a child in the bathroom and get away with it?

Part of the shock also seems to be related to the fact that the rapist is white. A number of racists perspectives have been posted on social media.

...

The idea that rape is part of “black culture” but not part of “white culture” disguises the harm caused by white men. The legacy of colonialism and apartheid in our country is the legacy of white men’s violence, including the mass rape of black women and murder of black men. By perpetuating the stereotype of the “black rapist” white men have distracted us from the violence that they commit. While black men are regarded as “inherently violent”, when white men commit violence, it is often seen as an exception.

...

As we have seen in the cases of Oscar Pistorius and Brock Turner, the American swimmer, white men receive less severe sentences for committing acts of violence, compared to black men. This normalises white men’s violence and makes it harder for victims of this violence to come forward. This allows white men’s violence to continue. It is possible that the Dros rapist thought he was more likely to get away with the rape because he is white.

We are all shocked about what happened to a six-year-old girl at the Dros restaurant on the 22nd of September, but we shouldn’t be. What happened to her is a product of rape culture. It is a product of a society in which men feel entitled to the bodies of girls, women and people of other genders. It is a product of racism, which dismisses violence perpetrated by white men. It is a product of our failure to act in all instances of rape.

I’m shocked by the Silverton Dros rape case, but this opinion piece is absurd. Reading this, however, it comes to me that the author may be a rape victim. I believe that most men are against rape, but I don’t like to be entertained by gaslighting. Tomorrow it may be incredibly hard to have a normal conversation with a person with the above opinion.

I only trust that Justice will prevail, the rape victim, however, will remember this dreaded experience growing up. No person should endure that experience. Products of circumstance...

Who wrote this drivel - I cannot see a name anywhere.

Yip. Everything wrong with our sick society are blamed on the colonialist's or White man. Even the idea of curing HIV by raping babies and toddlers, as well as Muti practices using human body parts. Sangoma practicing has nothing to do with it. Raping and killing was never an African thing. Nor was marrying very young girls. It all arrived with the settlers in the 1600's

/Sarcasm.

The original piece also doesn't give a name ( or else I just can't find it ).

edit: found it.

She writes in her personal capacity yet IOL deemed it fitting to be published? Yet in other news it is made clear that even forum owners and WhatsApp group administrators are responsible and can be held liable for what members of the group or forum post.

You seem to be struggling with comprehension this morning, must be monday blues. I never said I think he will get off, I said that I almost hope that he does, so that the mob can sort him out.

And you can please put the race card back, my opinion in this thread now is exactly the same than it was before the people involved's skin colour came out. Unlike you (it seems) I don't judge the crime on the skin colour of the perpetrator or the victim. I regard all criminals as scum that should be exterminated.
Nah, it's you who have the issues. You didn't exactly sing this tune since time and memorial. And your intention here is clear. I don't care if you think or hope the conclusion is the same. Oh, and the race card is pulled on here often enough, even in this thread.

Yes it likely did but the girl would need to be examined etc and a report given to the authorities. Once he's appeared in court for rape charges we'll know there was definitely a rape. If he appears and there are no rape charges etc then there was no rape. That's how I understand it.
Doesn't exactly work like that. There could be ambiguity in which case it's left up to a court but prosecutors can also drop charges due to lack of evidence. Until then there is rape charges as you can't arrest someone without charges.

From the above opinion piece;

What happened to her is a product of rape culture. It is a product of a society in which men feel entitled to the bodies of girls, women and people of other genders. It is a product of racism, which dismisses violence perpetrated by white men.

Can people please stop racialising this?

Why wasn't Hannah Cornelius' violent rape and murder a racist attack but this is?

Reading that lady's article. She is a PHD student.. but she blames white(s). By the looks of it, ANC has succeeded in brainwashing people that white people are bad.

By her piece she is mad at white men. Rape is rape. Rape is bad , no matter what colour etc. THAT should be focus, not colour.

Edit: She has so much "info" on rape by white men etc.. but she doesn't link to any stats. So yea.. she can bite it.

Not even worth a response so much drivel...

The whole reason for having opinion pieces is that the news outlets can publish the biggest load of sensationalist BS that they can never publish as news.

I never understand why people even read that nonsense. It isn't a real view of what opinions people hold. It is radical and sensationalist to get clicks. Maybe there's 1 or 2 good social commentators, but Geez recognise the shît for what it is.

That just nonsense, everyone was outraged already even before the skin colours became known.

The only people to whom the race of the people involved here matters are racists, referring to racists(both black and white).

I stopped reading when it color was mentioned. We all have to be the best person we can be, yet we have lost our way.

I read it to be amazed how blind/racist someone (with a PHD) can be.

Interesting. I read that he's refusing to hand his cellphone over as his lawyer says he has a right to not incriminate himself. There must be some sick **** stored on there.
