The obligatory PC vs. XBOX thread...

while i was working 6 to 8 .(well, ok.. bout 4 hours of that was on road to and from work.. aaarg) i found a console to be perfect for gaming, especially since a pc was what i was sitting behind working on the whole day.

ofcourse i quite that job and now have much more free time and finding myself playing more on the pc again.

cant really compare the two though, the one cant be better than the other, not even in one department like, purely gaming. i think it depends on your personal situation. it also depends on the kind of games you like and how you like to play those games. i would much rather play my racers, platformers, and such on my PS3 or 360, and TF2 (and other FPSs) and Ryzom (and other MMORPGs) on my PC.

Woooaah where did that come from?

Yep, you can't have so much time on your hands looking at the consoles "loading speed" between levels :D

I always thought of console as kind of childish, compared to the Techies on this forum that use PC's... different smokes, for different folkes I guess...

My post wasn't aimed at anyone specifically. It was supposed to be a sarcastic stereotyping - hence the winking-emoticon. This board needs sarcasm tags!

I actually think that consoles and pcs are more similar than ever pretty soon they'll be the same thing.

they are the same thing, cept u cant upgrade an xbox - every week that goes by the graphics seem worse and worse compared to the pc, and then bam! you're sitting with obsolite technology.

 @ 'every week the graphics seem worse' ....... let's try keep a grasp on reality here at least.

yep, day after day technology is moving on... You can't justify saying "With PC's you need to upgrade every 6 months!" but think your xbox upgrades itself by magic.

time she's a ticking...

You don't need to upgrade an XBOX, because devs take advantage of the power and features that are available and code accordingly. Look at games on the 360 from 2 years ago - they look like "last-gen" games compred to what's available now. Multi-platform games are built with all platforms in mind. The PC might just get higher-res textures, but for the most part, the particle-systems, models, etc. are the same.

Well, i'd honestly much rather play any game, whether it be racing, RPG, FPS, platformer, hack-and-slash etc on my PS3/360 than on my PC. I depends on what you like, i dont prefer consoles over PC because of price, but rather the "no-hassle" approach of consoles, on my HDTV in 5.1 DDS or DTS, with me lounging on the couch. Graphics only really improve significantly every 5 years or so. Sure, textures, objects on screen etc will improve incrementally year-on-year on the PC, but it's still not enough to have me invest in an uber-pc.
Only PC games coming out shortly that interests me is D3 and Dragon Age. Hopefully i can at least run those on min specs on my rapidly aging PC, but will rather hold out for word of console versions of those games, sub-par graphics and all. ;)

oh yes, RPG is firmly in the realm of the PC ;) ...... I would never play any RPG on my 360.

AFAIK the developers balance the load between everything, as the beta testers spot where there are too many of ANYTHING, whether it be Texture Size, Particle count, Polygon Count, Post Rendering Fx (Like Motion Blur) or Lighting and/or Shadows.

I would love to see an XBOX that can run Crysis at DX10 High detail Settings, like a few PC gamers can.

I think it depends on what kind of RPG. FF's will be best on console, while stuff like Baldur's Gate will rule on PC.

you can't use Crysis as a ref point bru ......... most of the worlds PC's couldn't handle that fscker with everything high ;)

poor fsckers...

with the prices of ram and 3dcards today, it's not that difficult.

and when exactly was Crysis released ;)

8 months ago, maybe... Farcry 2 will be the new "Benchmark" when it arrives...

so shows you - 1 year later - no port for xbox. why?

lol...because they won't even attempt it!
