The Official BlackBerry Bold 9900 Thread

MTN now has the phone, doesn't look like packages are loaded just yet, but the phone is in stock

Now if only Nashua could sort themselves out

According to the MTN desk they are STILL in "testing". I mentioned the Yello brochure and was told it was "unfortunate" because the packages still had to be decided. ETA? Maybe mid-Oct.. Says 808 anyway..

I really love how stupid people (MTN) can be, its sad that networks are allowed to behave this badly

Wow, MTN is clueless/useless ... I phoned 808 yesterday, and they confirmed the had stock (40 phones), i just phoned out of curiosity, because i already pre-ordered in store, so i did not wanna "double book"

How do you find the battery life on the phone? and is the internet any faster when using the 9900 compared to other bb? thanks in advanced :)

battery life: half a day on 3G, 1 and a half days on 2G
the browser: is very nice and fast (when your network is fast)

Is the browser faster than a normal blackberry on our network? and when you say half a day how many hours do you mean? thanks :)

Half a day meaning like 7 or 8 Hours, and yes the actual browser is much faster than that of a bold or torch. The processor makes it fast :)

I see MTN phone ships with 296, has anyone tried to update that software? Apparentky it helps with some extra battery life?

am i missing the option for "flip to go to silent" somewhere, or does the 9900 not have this option?

I got my 9900 on Saturday, and I love it ... much faster than my 9780. However, the battery life is really crap. Unplugged this morning around 6:30, by 11am I had 35% battery life left, and I wasn't even using it half as much as my 9780. And yes, I am aware that you can switch off 3G to make it last longer, but what's the point of having a 3G device then?

and just ordered the phone through vodacom upgrade centre ;) she said it should be delivered by wednesday cannot wait :), LandyMan you keeping it in the leather pouch and all ? im a social freak that battery life doesnt sound too good if ur on 35% after 4:30hr something is wrong there, alot of guys on crackberry are reporting that.

here are a few from crackberry, i need to add user experience is very different so what might help one of us might not be the same from another, so give .440 a try.

2. Quote: "I got my phone yesterday. Charged it til full at 9PM (took couple hours), then I used it til 5PM today with Facebook, emails, some web browser and IM ... you know what the battery is still 55% at 6PM. And at 10PM the battery is 30%. To me there is absolutely no issue with the battery at all!

* I am using 9930 and lastest OS .340 "

4. Link to .440 try it and let me know too please, i know half of these dont have a reference and as i mentioned user experiences change and vary i suppose, from what i read on crackberry everyone is different and no1 has a solid answer on each software revision, but anyways doesnt hurt to try

He says he is on .440, which is strange because everyone said that battery life improves greatly when moving up from the one the phone ships on

I got my phone on Friday. This phone is so awesome. I cannot believe how nice it is to type on. The keys are a nice size for man sized hands and have a nice feel as well. This phone is actually better than I expected and that doesn't happen very often.
The only downside is the battery life. It is pretty bad, but I used only 2G today as I have a pc for browsing and the battery is on 75% as I type this from 6 this morning. But I have hardly used the phone today. On Sat I was going mad and had it on 3G and the battery was in the red by 4pm.

yeah Lazy.Me only noticed now he said he was on 440, o well

Spark, have you done the .440 update? Also LandyMan, are you sure you are running 440? because unless you were on the phone the whole time or running GPS software or something similar, it doesn't make sense that your battery drainage would be that intense, as Michaelmw pointed you

I haven't done the .440 update. To be honest I'm a little nervous to do it right now as I am still getting used to the phone as it's my first BB. I will need to spend a few hours reading up on guides for correct uninstalling, reinstalling and backups first before I mess about. Has anyone here installed the update?

BIS being down today is probably why I have had such good battery life today.
