The Official BlackBerry Bold 9900 Thread

I only had the old OS for a day, first day i had the phone, left home at 1:30 with battery on 75%, got back at 4 with battery on ±30%, but that was with HEAVY usage, and in an area with crappy signal/BIS coverage. Upgraded that night, and now depends on the usage (generally i am a heavy user) but the phone can get through a day, i have even had it last 1.5 days, but you need to remember that everything is always updating in the background and all that, haven't tried very hard to conserve battery life. I must add in that i feel with .440 the battery life is very manageable.

That said, .474 was just released (hand full of hours ago) so very excited about that, not sure when i will get around to installing it, it is busy downloading at least. I will report back any findings from the new OS

Can you point me to a guide or something how to upgrade the firmwarez please?

I will probably only install the OS tonight,

Here is what you need, firstly the latest OS:
http://forums.crackberry.com/blackb...9900-os-7-0-0-474-release-wind-canada-666546/
Please note, you do not HAVE to use this one, but its good practice to always use the latest (latest should equal best)
Also, a listing of mirrors on page 3

Updating:

Bets guide i could find
PLEASE NOTE!!!! THE VENDOR FILES MUST BE DELETED, THERE ARE 2(TWO) OF THEM FOR OS 7, BOTH MUST BE DELETED

Vendor File removal
http://forums.crackberry.com/blackb...er-os-cant-get-load-vendor-xml-issues-657276/
This is an app that seems popular, i haven't tried it myself, but people seem to like it, please note, it will search your entire computer for any copies of the vendor files and delete them, if you feel uncomfortable then do not use this
Also, need to right click and run as administrator

And when everything goes wrong:

Best of luck, hope i have included everything that needs to be included, and i take no responsibility for any possible happenings (bricked phone or otherwise) for using what i have written here

Okay, so I have updated, can't say much for the battery yet, but the phone performance is incredible

-nevermind- got it working! needed a newer version of the desktop software, weird...

Installed the lates Firmware to pc, and when I disconnect my cable when the Desktop Software syays its searching for updates it just stays there? any help please? I'll post on Crackberry as well...
Oh I did delete the Vendor.xml file - Lazy you mention there are two vendor files? I only find the one in the apploader folder?

There is another in a hidden folder, user,<name>,appdata(i think), Research in motion, global(or something),
Sorry i really cannot remember, i am on mac so i can't just quickly check

The new OS is so much better, the phone still has its moments of lag when closing the message app or in odd other locations, but its a lot less than previously, the spinning clock is also less, Garmap doesn't freeze at start up anymore.
Also, the battery drainage seems much better. Must say, phone feels much better, very happy

Also, does anyone use a screen protector or other cover with the phone?

the new os (7.0.0.474) is incredible, much better everything, battery drainage sitting at 5% per hour with very decent usage

Anyone else have a problem that the speaker distort when it is on level 8, 9 or 10?

Ringtones ana sms tones distort when the level is too high.

Or is it only mine? If it is then I'll they will have to replace it. Only 4 days old.

Had my 9900 for about a week and love it to death. Battery life almost as bad as my 8520 though.

Any more feedback about battery life under the newer OS?

Hi,
Does anybody know if there is way to bybass the service books block from vodacom?
One of the reasons why I got this phone is bacause i read that mobile hotspot will be part of OS7.1
Only to find out that Vodacom blocks it.

I read on Crackberry that you can but VC will just overide that when you reboot.

So I suppose its something can can be done.

Then the service book will be removed and you will have to replace it again.

EDIT: Sorry if you DON'T reboot it should stay there.
