The Official ebook Reader Thread

My boss just bought a kindle 3 from Amazon US - cost him r1400 inc shipping and tax. That is bugger all. I'd say there's no contest anymore in the e-ink space.

I just got my Kindle 3 from Amazon yesterday and I have to say I'm very happy with it. I paid R1351 total. The small size is amazing, it has a rubberised back and keys which make it easier to grip. The screen space for reading has increased, it's faster in everything. Truly an amazing device, my parents will get my Kindle 2.

That's right the basic model.

Whew ok. So the 3G version is like R300 more then. Loving my Kindle 3. It's soooo much better than the eSlick, and I paid almost half of what I did for the eSlick a year ago.

Hi Everybody

Please can you help. I am about to receive a Nook E reader from Barnes & Noble. I checked the reviews & it seems a decent reader. I now am looking to buy ebooks for it. It seems like Barnes & Noble has a comprehensive set of ebooks containing my favourite authors (& new authors that I would like to read). Having read through the entire thread I noticed that initially people were able to buy from Fictionwise (a Barnes & Noble Co) by using a US address thereafter it was blocked. Can anybody advise how I can purchase from www.barnesandnoble.com from south africa.

Many thanks
Dinashan

A question for those of you who are avid readers and own the Kindle - how has the experience been to date?

I like holding a book, turning pages and eventually sticking it into my book shelf when I'm done. Silly, I know, but that's just how it is.

Are you reading as much, or more maybe, after buying the Kindle or do you find yourself going back to real books?

The ergonomics of an ereader are FAR superior to a book. I'd choose to read a book on an ereader every time. Way more comfortable.

Are you able to send it back and rather get a Kindle?

I wouldn't say an ebook reader is ergonomically so much superior to paper. You cant just flick through for one thing. But all in all it's a better solution.

Hopefully the K4 will have a function to emit old book fragrances, then I'll be 100% happy. :D

The biggest advantage I'm looking forward to is the ability to immediately buy a book - instead of having to order it, because the shops don't stock it. Especially for series. Damn bookstores always have 2 and 4 in a 5 book series...Or if you find a writer you like, easily getting hold of their other books. Damn spiffy if you ask me. :p
