The Official EPL 2010/11 Thread

They don't have one, but in the last couple of decades Arsenal have come close.

QPR iirc... recently though apart from Arsenal it has to be Barcelona. Buckets of bad blood there. Still, no rivalry can compare to the Liverpool/United one. Both teams have had very successful periods. Arsenal/Spuds come close, but not that much. Neither of them have been as successful as United or Liverpool.

EDIT: If either London team win the ECL at Wembley, I reckon that will kick off a huge rivalry.

Who is Chelsea's traditional Rival. I know it's not Fulham their rivals are Brentford , Arsenal's traditional rivals are Hotspurs, West Ham has Milwall. Chelsea seems to be the odd man out

It could be 'Spurs. In 1975 there was almost a riot when Spurs Beat Chelsea and caused Chelsea to be relegated. It is still known as the battle of White Hart Lane.

But historically I'd say West Ham.

Have to say though - the matches with Arsenal have been much more intense recently. Somehow the atmosphere back in 97 wasn't the same... then again, we started winning things. Personally, I think these will be called the Drogba Years. ;)

Aren't Leeds and Liverpool bitter rivals?

What about Liverpool vs Everton. Surely that must be one of the big ones. I think the first match I watched was a liverpool vs everton game, think it was FA Cup, could have been a final.

I really don't understand this. Some Liverpool fans in here insist on using derogatory terms about United, I can't remember the last time it happened the other way around. How bitter are you people?

Interesting post!

afaik there is no real history of rivalry between Chelsea and any other club. (No one took them seriously enough until Abramovic arrived :D). And I will also dare to say that most of their supporters are from the post 2005 era.

From an Arsenal perspective the rivalry with them is nothing like the Tottenham rivalry. We can survive loosing to any other team on the planet, but not the spuds, and vice versa. Hell, the spuds even make dvd's of carling cup matches they win against us.

The rivalry with Chavski even now is simply one with a quality team, nothing more.

Doesn't Chelski count as derogatory? Which you use? Sure it doesn't roll off the tongue like Arse, ManUre or Liverfool/Loserpool but still...

In the 70's the 2 teams I supported were Leeds and Liverpool. Leeds due to their inspirational captain, Billy Bremner, who was my hero and Liverpool as they were my team - from the 60's.

So if this little dig upsets you, grow a pair.

I honestly don't remember using this anytime recently. But compare the two - Chelsea because of the Russian owner. Manure because what?

Who cares? Have some respect. All that shows is two reasons to be bitter. Just because those are two teams you support, doesn't mean you have to insult another club.

How about looking in a mirror there?

Lol. You obviously don't see my point. I say 'who cares' because it shouldn't matter who you support, if you're a mature, intelligent person, you'd realise that your insults are disrespectful. Later.

I'm very well aware of your implied rebuke, but deliberately chose to ignore it. As I will ignore your implied request to respect MUFC.

Frankly... because it just goes together so well. Like arse for arsenal. I'm sure if there was a better, more insulting term the Pool people would use it. Also, if there was something more insulting than Chelski or Chavski then I'm sure these bitter Arsenal "supporters" would use it very often.

I'm going to pull back and refrain from using these "names" - just went and re-read the sticky about these types of comments!

Don't worry, I haven't reported anything :p
