The Official EPL 2010/11 Thread

Every team has their reasons for not winning things - like my team... 'we have a young team'.

You call them reasons, I call them excuses. What happens in the boardroom does not affect the team to THAT extent. Chelsea went from winning practically every game to scraping something like 1 point in matches. If this was a known cause of deteriorating teams' performances, do you think Chelsea would have done it mid-season?

Similar to when Ferguson announced his retirement in 2001 or thereabouts, and we did badly in the League, every body said it was a result of Fergie's decision, but that's nonsense. We didn't win because we weren't good enough. End of story.

An announcement like that could pretty well destroy a team's mindset and focus... so ya it is a contributing factor

Contributing factor, yes... Reason, by itself? Hell no.

Lol!

I think that whole 'team is playing badly because of issues in management' story quite ridiculous. Liverpool fans have used it for a while, but it holds no water whatsoever. This bad run has nothing to do with the sacking of Wilkins.

It is ridiculous. I think the absences of Lampard, Drogba (the real Drogba), Essien and Terry really caught up with them. Also maybe a level of complacency has crept in.

Well, Harry Redknapp seems to think that all the middle table and lower tier teams have upped their game and are competing with the big guns....

Spurs to win the Champions League anybody ????

All the teams that make the last 16 can win it I suppose. If they continue to be so inconsistent the only way they will be playing in the Champs League next season is if they win it this year.

It's not just Harry that can see this. Most football fans can see that the 'smaller' teams have upped their game.

Chris Hughton has been sacked by Newcastle. Crazy.

Beat villa 6-0, Sunderland 5-1, Arsenal 1-0, Chelsea 4-3 Everton 1-0.

I agree dude. I personally think there are a few other reasons. They are not bad, they just lost something (and if you say Lampard, I'll punch you through the monitor). I think the complacency thing is best. They have looked below par in the few games we won before the slump "started". I was just wondering when we were gonna start getting bad results. Fact is, we became far too lazy and took far too much time on the ball. Now they've lost their verve and Carlo is gonna need to pick them up pronto. Big month coming up.

I agree to a point. I said it before the campaign started, and I'll say it again. In Chelsea's case, they got rid of too many proven players (Beletti, Deco, Michael Ballack, Carvalho) and replaced them with new comers, Benayoun aside. Out of a possible 25 man over-21 squad, Chelsea registered 19 players, and 3 of those were goalkeepers. It was going to be inevitable that there would be injuries, and all they can look to is young talent, who aren't proven and don't have experience.

Chelsea's greatest strengths are their speed and physical attributes, if you play a high speed, physical game week after week (and Chelsea were doing it extremely well, it has to be said), you are going to have fatigued players. This wasn't so much of a problem last season, as there was a bigger squad. This season, the results are speaking for itself.

Man U vs Arsenal
Chelsea vs Man U
Arsenal vs Chelsea

The next 3 weeks is surely going to dish up some drama. It almost seems scripted.

Fastest to 100 Premier League clean sheets:
1. Petr Cech (180 games)
2. Jose Reina (198 games)
3. Peter Schmeichel (212 games)
4. David Seaman (225 games)
5. Edwin van der Sar (247 games)
6. Nigel Martyn (275 games)
7. David James (302)
8. Thomas Sorensen (322 games)
9. Brad Friedel (339 games)
10. Mark Schwarzer (350 games)
11. Shay Given (381 games)

Think Reina got his 100th against Villa

Cracking games coming up this weekend !!!

Anybody fancy a bet ?

...could make a killing if one could predict this weekend's results.
