The Official NVidia Shield Thread

Right on brother! Just purchased a Lifetime sub to this legendary piece of software myself.

Again, sorry for sounding hysterical, I just don't gel well with the idea of adverts getting thrown in my face. If it doesn't bother you, it doesn't bother you.

This guy getting drag queen adverts shoved in his face is quite funny though..View attachment 1116292

Besides, if I do happen to see something like that, for a service, it is not going to be a good recommendation for that service. So I will likely choose a different service that is not offended me in some way, already.

Really, could not be bothered, if I want to watch something on YouTube, or whatever, I just select and press enter. Long ago learnt to filter out irrelevant ****, in media, be it news papers, or as in this instance your TV. Only way I can stay fairly sane.
this. Even it was flying pink donkies talking like samuel l jackson...

Do you know if something like a Pihole will take care of the ads?

Not sure, so have not recommended it. Don't have them yet, so cannot test.

If they are imbeded in the "stream" then I suspect not.

Some guys report success, but I am not certain which launcher they using, and if they are talking about the same thing. Not interested enough at this stage to follow up and try, as it does not bug me.

"I just want everyone to know this doesn't bother me personally"

"I repeat, The adverts don't bother me!!"

No problem mate, we just taking the Mikey, out on you.

Please don't go so very serious on us. :)
No worries mate, I find your solutions of "mentally blocking out and filtering" things in a hardware/software thread amusing.

Go on, give us more of your neat tips and tricks! How can I block out email spam with my mind?

My email client [ Thunderbird ] has useful ability called filters, that move unwanted "stuff" to a trash folder, that empties itself. Effectively a black hole.

A few clicks, of the mouse and I don't know about it anymore. On *nix, /dev/null is a wonderful device.

Clever trick.
Huh, I guess you don't like spam/ads stuffed into your face when you want to check out your e-mail.

I just want you to know that I personally don't care about e-mail spam - I just block it out... mentally.

I get too many emails a day, so to make it easier to find what is important, I remove the distractions

Again, could not be bothered.

If I want to read something on E-mail or whatever, I just select and press enter. Long ago learnt to filter out irrelevant ****, in blogs, be it magazines, or as in this instance one's E-mail. Only way I can stay fairly sane.

I don't understand the issue regarding Google TV - it is replacing " Android TV " either way. Not?

A post I read recently, titled "Ads on the [Nvidia Shield] home screen aren't a big deal"

"Nvidia Shield is a streaming box, and the ads are all for streaming services. Who among us wouldn't benefit from another one or two streaming services bleeding their bank account every month. At least we know it stops here! Google would never display ads for car insurance, automobiles, or any other unrelated crap on the home screen. They would never wait for ads on the home screen to become the norm and then start running ads before every app you run. That could never happen. It' not like the Internet is almost unusable without ad blocking software. Regular TV isn't nearly unwatchable without a DVR. I really like those 1/3 screen spam ads that sometimes grow to 2/3 screen size. Terrestrial radio isn't a joke because of ads, and companies like Spotify aren't trying to monopolize the podcast market. At least I can get a fair price on something as basic as food at Safeway, as long as I install their app. Safeco Field is a way cooler name than The Kingdome. AAA game publishers would never delay the launching of a $60 video game to show an ad.

People who say ads on the home screen aren't a big deal are the same kind of people who buy stuff from telemarketers and who respond to e-mail ad campaigns. They are not part of the problem; they are the problem, and we can't have nice things because of them."
