The Official NVidia Shield Thread

Don't know, I would just sideload it and then if it still doesn't work I'll go and see what the real story is with ES Explorer > user apps > disney > store

Going to create a UK Google email addy, via VPN, then check if logging on to my Shield via VPN in the UK, gets it to install.

Hey guys,

Anyone been able to test the upscaling ability on DStv now with the 2019 Nvidia?

Wanting to pull the trigger as soon as the Pro version is available again on Amazon.

Cheers

Anyone here experiencing issues after the 8.2.2 update on their Nvidia shield tube and Pro models?
I'm coming across a lot of people complaining on their forum, and having ordered one, I want to know whether to avoid the update or not.

So far, only issue I have, is that if I mount a Samba Share, and try play a episode of the Mandalorian, on that share it plays with out audio. If I copy it to a USB stick and plug it into my Shield it plays fine.

Has anybody experienced issues with accessing the settings menu? When I click on the settings icon on the top right nothing happens. I've tried it with several remote controls.

Not had that problem, using the Shield remote, or the nVidia remote app on my phone.

Hi guys

I'm checking to see if anyone knows the solution to the issue I'm experiencing.

If I'm watching Dstv, Netflix or Showmax and I switch the TV off, when I switch it back on, the content has stopped playing and the relevant "error playing the title" from the respective app pops up, to which I have to select retry and it plays again. It doesn't do this with youtube and spotify oddly enough.

I have HDMI CEC functions on both the TV and Shield set to off, yet something is triggering the content to stop playing if the TV is switched off. If I just change the source and go back to the source the shield is connected to, it doesn't affect it, content is still played in the background, its only when switching the TV off that it stops.

I've even checked developer settings and I don't find any solution.

Reason I need it playing while the TV is off is often my son switches on the TV to watch however he doesn't know how to navigate the device so I usually just leave his channels playing in the background so when he does switch it on, it continues as normal. My Mibox and Telkom lit box dont have this issue.

Anyone have the same thing happen on those apps?

The hdcp handshake from the TV probably stops which kills the playback.

The other apps probably don't require hdcp
Is there a way to prevent apps from "closing"? I've seen if the menu button is double-pressed it allows you to kill certain apps, but is there a way to lock them?

Even if you could lock them, that wouldn't work. The apps stay in the background but when you switch the tv off it stops playing back. Switch the tv back on and you will see the app is still in the background but you need to physically go back into the app. It's an interesting question though but I don't think there is a way to do what you want to do unfortunately. I will be happy to be proven wrong though.

Please pardon my ignorance but I'm new to the Nvidia Shield Pro and hoping I can get some help on the gaming side of the console.

I would like to set up some games for my son to play but I'm a bit confused as there are games in the Play Store as well as games in the Nvidia Games app.

I don't have any PC games, and whenever I look at a game on Nvidia Games it says I have to own it on steam etc. which I clearly don't as I've never been a PC gamer, however, those games seem way superior than the games found in the Play Store...

So my question is how do I go about playing those games? What account do I need to sign up for? Cost? Are any games free? etc...

The games in Google Playstore are straightforward, download to console, pay and play... but I don't think the same applies to Nvidia Games?

Ideally there are some games I'd want to download and play from Nvidia Games but it seems the games are on a cloud and I need to subscribe to something to play?

Id appreciate the help.

Anyone experiencing their Shield turning ON randomly? Feels like I'm living with a ghost.
