I found switching my shoes to Gel Nimbus got rid of most of my plantar fasciitis issues.
I got plantar fasciitis from Asics shoes. :( Switched back to NB, and for a couple of months I wore inserts (for running and in normal shoes), and I haven't had an issue since.

It seems that I have plantar fasciitis (self-diagnosed) and I don't ever run. :) Obviously, I am in wrong thread but was looking to see if there is any easy DIY solution. Will check YT, keep running.
Check post #2151. Provides a heel cushion and arch support but I think you have something else.

Thanks man, just had a look at the times and it seems I was exaggerating a little. Only one run was over 4.5kms (and over 30 mins ;) ).

I'm thinking my goal should be 5kms in 30 mins. Think in that case, walking would not be an option.

Welcome.
If you're hitting that average pace with walking included then your actual running pace is quite high.
You likely doing interval training which is good for speed but you'll also want to do aerobic and endurance runs which is your bread and butter.

Slow enough to have a relaxed conversation would be something to aim for.

This Reebok has been getting rave reviews for its cost to performance ratio - basically the best bang for buck running shoe out there.

Rather get a proper medical diagnosis. Speaking from experience, been suffering on and off for 4+ years with plantar fasciitis. Get proper shoes with proper support, to ease pain, roll you foot on a frozen water bottle. Find the route cause, mine is mainly tight calve muscles, my wife recently got into accupressure and natural healing, she massaged my calves and pushed on the pressure point on the Saturday night, was f#%ing painful but, went for a run yesterday and was probably the least pain ive had while running in years, today i still feel ok, not stiff, no real pain, hamstrings are a little tight. Tried to keep the pace low and slow and still went faster than my parkrun time from saturday without even trying so hopefully im finally on the mend and can get back to sub 30 for 5k.
Thanks, you told me more than my expensive podiatrist and now I regret going there. I am now the proud owner of 1400 rand worth of insoles which probably cost 150 rands to her, nice profit there.

p.s. It didn't appear as if doc was really interested in diagnosing or giving me some exercise regime. I asked if I can do x,yz - she said yeah, its fine.. Should have mentioned some extreme sports to see if she was listening at all.

LOL yea doctors these days are in it for the money. When i went to get diagnosed, the doc barely assessed me, sent me straight for xrays, xrays came back, she called and said i have plantar fasciitis and i need to see a physio. Didnt bother with physio, did my own research and slowly got it to a point where i could run again . I must say the accupressure has worked the best, last few days of running has been the least pain ive had in years LOL, its usually not too bad and i can run through the pain and it eventually feels ok.

Slowed it down and managed to do 25 mins of running (and the rest walking). Will try for 30 next time.

And for some extra motivation I bought myself the Garmin forerunner 55. R250 + 50% off through Vitality Active gear. Till now I've been running with a Huawei band. Hopefully I no longer need to run with my phone anymore ( I run with the phone so I can see the stats and GPS).

Please let me know if you like it. I also want to stop using my phone!

I have never run before (except when I was chased by a knife, well someone holding a knife) and I am tired of @pinball wizard calling me fat.

How do I know what shoes will work for me. The only shoes I find super comfortable and does not hurt my feet are imported K Swiss sneakers. They nice and wide and super soft. Now of course they are not running shoes, specially if you run from nothing.

I don't mind spending 2 or 3 grand for kicks that will do the running for me.

Should I just import K Swiss running shoes?

Go to sportsman warehouse or someone that can put you on a treadmill and check your running forms.

If width is the issue, I know that New Balance and Asics come in different widths. Probably most other brands as well. A big brick&mortar shop will sort you out.

I was there at gateway. They didn't look like they knew anything about running. Maybe it is because I don't know what someone looks like that knows anything about running. Will check next time if I can spot the treadmill and the treadmill interpreter.

Gateway Durban?

If you are in the Durban area Poobie Naidoos is where you want to go. I'm 1000km away and actually order my running shoes from them. Not sure if they survived the riots or not, I know their area got hammered.
