The official running thread™

When you do a 10k using this method, you finish fresh enough to want to do another 10k.

I was thinking about your fordyce quote, and I remember running my 5k PB two weeks after my first marathon.
That's not entirely unexpected given that generic fitness is a function of aerobic capacity and anaerobic threshold - most other performance factors are sport specific.

Your marathon training improved your aerobic capacity and anaerobic threshold which was reflected also in your 5k performance.

The other factor is that you don't want to run a 5k maxed out during your training for a marathon so you only get a chance after your marathon has happened.

I run everything in my Hoka Clifton 8. Its the only shoe that really works for me, but sadly I do get less KM out of them comparing to other shoes I had. The Mach 5 just didnt work for my wider feet.

I dont know how you guys feel about the whole carbon craze, but I tried it once and it was murder on my feet (but I felt a tad faster)

Pilates this morning and an easy 27km of muddy gravelling on the MTB this afternoon. Tomorrow ia a run day again. Keeping it all easy…

I know its probably a dumb question but how well do you stretch before/after your run?

I don't at all, I walk for a few minutes before I start running, might swing my legs a bit at the hips etc but nothing major, then take off slow and ramp up a bit after the first km. When i am done i walk a few minutes at the end.

They did a lab test and the benefits come more from the Zoom X foam providing the spring than from the actual plate.
Explains why Nike is the preferred carbon plate shoe.

I was busy browsing for some shoes this morning when I saw this. Great deal right?5CFBA3C4-36C2-4074-9B46-C2A43BFA9838.jpeg

I sometimes do let swings before but after I must do this. Sorted out my knee and lower back issues.

That's a great stretch but can be a killer to hold for 2 or 3 minutes if your hip flexors are tight!

There's an easier variation for people who can't get into the right position as he demonstrated there - elevate the rear knee on a bench (or your couch) with the front foot still on the floor. I sometimes use one of my equalizer dip bars for a bit of light support for the hands to help get the torso nice and upright.
