The official running thread™

That's a great stretch but can be a killer to hold for 2 or 3 minutes if your hip flexors are tight!

There's an easier variation for people who can't get into the right position as he demonstrated there - elevate the rear knee on a bench (or your couch) with the front foot still on the floor. I sometimes use one of my equalizer dip bars for a bit of light support for the hands to help get the torso nice and upright.
So similar to a Bulgarian split squat?

When you do a 10k using this method, you finish fresh enough to want to do another 10k.

Thanks for sharing this, I did a 10k this morning, and using this technique I can probably run all day. It takes some patience and discipline because it means running a lot slower, but it's necessary to learn pacing and not just want to hammer it out and get destroyed every time we go running.

I was busy browsing for some shoes this morning when I saw this. Great deal right?View attachment 1446667
Sorry I'm late to the party. Please beware that there are numerous fake Hoka scam sites. My lady got done for a pair of shoes and a cap. Thank the Pope the bank was aware of this scam and stopped the payment.

Thanks for the headsup! Check the delivery cost on that Image ;)

Pretty much dealing in low HR 10k's with odd interval thrown in at around 75 min.

Keen to do a 180 min session to see how it feels and how the HR responds.

So that's a wrap for 2022. Finished it off with a 24km trail run around Muratie. Gawd, it was hot.

Was pleasantly surprised to see I ended on a nice round 100 runs. Way less than last year but that's because I took a few months off after Comrades

My 1st 5K in over 6 months, a PB as well.

I only started running a month ago, and I'm a big guy, so not a natural runner. But I hope to be able to do a 35 min 5k by the end of Feb. This morning my Parkrun time was 44:32, 17 seconds slower than last week.

I still have a long way to go.

Nice, you got some serious vert in this year... well done. Here's to a good running year in 2023.

Last year I did 1800km, but this year I took it a bit easier, helped unfortunately by a sprained ankle (Nov 2021) where the swelling in the leg went down in April and the ankle stopped being tweaky in October, and the last couple of months by a pulled something in my knee.

Do you guys ever feel like you’re regressing a bit? I’ve run 3 different parkruns in a row and my times are dropping. Things working in my favour tho is that im not used to trail runs, uncertain of the route layout and definitely not as fit as I used to be…

You can't maintain peak fitness and training intensity 100% or the time. Plus you've had some injury I recall recently that impacted your training and if you're focusing your training in specific areas, there might be other areas that you're neglecting slightly in some way (I know from your past posts that you do some cross training so this may or may not apply.)

Have you considered getting a personalised program from a running coach or sports conditioning coach. A good personalised program should be more effective than than a generic program or ad hoc training. It should also be aligned to your goals and timed so you can perform your best at the events that are important to you. Might be a good thing for you to look at if you haven't already.

my times are dropping.

Once you hit you PB's and want to go faster things get serious and exhausting.

Weekly mileage has to go up
Super intense weekly interval sessions.
The odd hjll rep session
Increase in cross training.

I would say ignore your times and focus on time.
Try to bank at least 50k a week doing ultra slow longish stuff including plenty walk breaks with one short speed session preferably after one of these slow runs.

Another pb will be around the corner.

I need some advice please. I started running with a pair of new balance 880 but I really hate the laces it comes with. Yes I know it sounds odd and I cant tell you exactly why, other than its horrible to tie and untie my shoes and they are a drop too short.

It should be an easy fix, but for the life of me I cant find new laces at sportsmans or totalsports.

Anyone else had this issue and what did you do?

You have only been running for a year, the first year everything is a exciting and you are constantly crushing PB's.

For example on a 5km. You go from like 45m-40m-30m pretty quickly then you drop to 29.30-29-28.30 which slows down then it takes a huge effort to go from 25m-24.30 and you are fighting for seconds. You will eventually plateau but occasionally get a 21.55 instead of a 22.30 for example and you have to be happy with that.

Unless you train like an Olympian you ain't going to get Olympian times and for me I came to terms with that. I enjoy running and enjoy putting in x amount of training when I put in religious training with extreme times I'm always tired, injured, lose my passion for running and don't have time for my family.

So it comes down to a performance vs happiness scale. I have run 19m 5km but the amount of training to get me there makes me an unhappy person so I feel balanced at a 25min 5km and my/family happiness is at its peak.

The other thing is every year I get older and it takes way more effort for me to push myself to great times.

Take them out measure them and buy some new ones off takealot that are longer.

I hate round laces they always come undone so I get flat laces.

Yes agreed, to be fair it's moronic for me to worry about it at all especially since I'm training for a marathon for feb.
