The official running thread™

It's nice to have scenery like this at a parkrun...

3.5km @ 22.30

Really felt my shins this morning and man was it hard, hopefully a few more of these and I will run the whole lot

Good going. For some reason I can't break the 25 minute mark. Always hovering around 26 to 28 minutes.
Thanks. I just started running and I feel like I am going to hit a wall soon.

Under 25 minutes would be awesome.

I wouldn't mind running a 5k under 25 either! I did my PB at Victoria Lake Parkrun on Saturday, 28:55

Hey guys. I've been lurking on this thread since yesterday. I'm going to start running, well mostly walking at first :D coz I have put on a ton of weight over the last year (currently 88kg 1.67m) which I think is technically obese. I have always enjoyed running as a kid, but mostly through the veld on trails.

So road running it is, I see you guys are very encouraging (well done @Steamy Tom ) so I will also post now and again to harness that for myself.

One silly question regarding foam rollers (recommend earlier in the thread). What does it do? I saw some youtube videos with ladies doing yoga style exercises, is that what is done for running too? Didn't seem "right".

Makes 2 of us.

I also started running a week or so ago as my weight was mentioned in the worst place possible, anyway what I want to know is I see some apps used for tracking, are there any good free one's I can give a shot? Probably don't even run 1km now but I want a benchmark to keep improving.

Hopefully the pro's will recommend some good free apps. I used mapmyrun when I went for a short jog the other day to see if I can manage. It didn't ask for payment, but then again I used it together with my Samsung gear, I think they have some sort of sponsored partnership, not sure. Try that out.

I use Strava. Google Fit also works fine.

However, I'm just a few weeks in, and I am already thinking of getting a running watch so I can leave the phone behind.
