Next it might say "At this pace even your shadow is considering overtaking you!"The way my Garmin comments feel lately "slower than previous efforts" "slower than average" "slower than last month" "slower than last year

Ignore what the watch says.My Garmin gives me a rating after the first km or so, not sure what it's based on (speed v heart rate i would assume) but it can be either +3 or +4 or -1 , -2 if it thinks you are slacking off.
edit: Okay, so I found out what this actually measures.
The FR45 an Fr55 survived the triangle of death after garmins recent updateNo vok I don't need my watch to do that! Thank **** I have the cheapy lol
That sounds like a VO2 Max session. Intended to get you to your max HR and they are the toughest to do. Didn't have any since Sept and suddenly got one on Monday again. 4x4:00@182 bpm. By the last interval I had nothing left in the tank to give.I will admit the base runs are very reasonable in terms of my normal pace. I just don't usually do them because of usually run with other people.
It wanted me to do almost sprint pace intervals which if fine, but each interval was like 4-5 minutes. Managed the first set (just) but fell off badly on.the 2nd.![]()
The Deviate Nitro 3 gave me my first black toenail.Deviate nitro 3 from puma,Adidas takumi sen, brooks hyperion tempo.
Okay, so a 21 km per week isn't out of bounds. Guess my fitness level is finally good enough. For a half marathon I would peak at 28-29km's for the long run. For the marathon I hardly exceed 36-37 kms. Imo you should do atleast 1 long run of 20 -25kms per week. Currently I do 1 medium long run on Thursday ie 18-20km and 1 x long run usually on a Sunday 25-28km's. Garmin seems to be more or less spot on. I'm curious how Garmin structure it's workouts ie. Does it follow a 7,9 or 14 day cycle.
Anyways It's been a while since I've posted. Hope everyone is doing well.

The Deviate Nitro 3 gave me my first black toenail.Still need to break in the beast properly.
Have you tried the Hyperion Tempo? It's the next shoe I've been eyeing. Or maybe I should try a max cushion shoe of some sort for the slower runs...

How's your recovery going?
Anaerobic sessions include recovery intervals of around 3 mins, which brings the avg HR down quite a bit. If you take only the run intervals the avg would be around 160 bpm on average. How is your HR so low on the Anerobic days but so high on the Threshold days ?
You also need to chage some of your base runs to be much slower need heart rate below 140, even if you walk often.
For a half marathon I would peak at 28-29km's for the long run.
I've lost four toenails in 2024 my toes look like something straight out of a Goosebumps movie. The Deviate Nitro 3 gave me my first black toenail.Still need to break in the beast properly.

I mainly use the Deviate Nitro 3 for speed sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays, while every other day is considered an easy day, so I stick to my daily trainers Velocity Nitro's. On Wednesdays, I prefer a shoe with more cushioning since Tuesday’s sessions are so intense that the recovery run the next day can feel like torture. The Hyperion Tempo isn't bad, but the Deviate is far superior. It offers more bounce and energy return, and I’ve noticed my heart rate is usually a few beats lower when I wear them.
Recovery has been tough. I had blood tests done again in January, and while my iron levels improved slightly, they weren’t where my doctor wanted them to be. I ended up getting an iron infusion via IV, which actually helped.I felt significantly better the next day. Funny enough, I recently watched a YouTube video on Ran to Japan where the guy had the exact same iron deficiency issue. Makes me wonder if it's a common thing among high-mileage runners.
Right now, I’m back up to around 102-104 km per week. It’s not where I want to be, but I’ll start increasing my mileage once the weather cools down. I do need new shoes, though… I’m on my last pair of Puma Velocitys. They’ve got about six weeks left in them, but after that, I’ll be in trouble.
Lastly I started making my own moringa powder and use it as a supplement. It will be interesting to see what my Vitamin levels shows when I have blood drawn again in March.
Right now, I’m just trying to get back to my pre-Comrades fitness level. Everything went downhill after last year’s race. I might do the Intercare Half Marathon later this year, along with a few local races as training runs. I’ve also been asked to pace two German runners for a sub-1:20 at the Two Oceans Half Marathon. My goodness what are you training for ? Wife also struggeled with low iron levels and after a few years of supplements a dieticians helped het. Bascially lots of chicken breast / steak and the brocoli salad with nuts. If you are puting in those miles nutrition and sleep is probably just as important as the miles each week.
This is a genuine dilemma @ShaunSA . I work in IT, and a few of my clients run comrades but the manager of these same clients in comrades cheated in comrades 2023. I'm the one that caught him out(reported to comrades and therunningman) but never confronted him or told the other clients about him (they are proper runners, I've seen them myself).
Now I must attend to this managers calls but yoh, I wish I could tell the other clients but I can imagine it would mess up working relations big time. Perhaps if I ever leave I could tell them, or if he retires I could tell them?

He let someone else run with this number, he then swapped and finished with it on. I only knew because im nosey and like to see pics of people I know during the race.Hectic, how did he cheat if you don't mind me asking?

I have no clue, I just wished comrades publicly shamed these cheaters.Surely that should be able to pick it up easily on photos? Did the half ironman last year and AI scans your face then they pull up all your photos with your race number.

That moment where you get to the end and enjoy 3 cups of cokeI really don't understand schit like this. wtf are you fooling except yourself?
My whole point behind running is the sense of personal achievement I get from doing a park run, a trot around the block or a longer run/race
And the cheap medal and race t-shirt of course! If I'm really lucky there's also a bottled water handed out at finish![]()
KZN Athletics does which I think is a good thing...I have no clue, I just wished comrades publicly shamed these cheaters.
