Thats a pretty standard HR for me. I was on beta blockers for many years (I have high blood pressure) and it was a mission to get my HR above 150 (thinking Discovery points here...).Some advice needed from more experienced runners. @8letters
I'm slowly getting back to running while still struggling with some sinus/allergy issues. Think I might be allergic to my work environment, every afternoon after work I get hit with a huge headache (throughout the day it's pretty low level).Trying to run again every second day (depending on how bad the headache is) after not being able to run for 10 days.
The runs feel pretty good now, but my HR is pretty much straight back to zone 3 for the entire run. Now the question is do I stick to my normal pace and just power through without worrying too much about HR or would it be better to fall back to slower pace and lower cadence while HR get backs to normal again?
Base run today: 10.13 km / 1:07:00 / 6:37/km Avg Pace / 766 Calories / 155 bpm Avg HR

I went to a cardiologist and he nearly crapped a porcupine because I was on the beta blockers for so long. Long story short it took a bit of effort to find BP meds that worked for me but I had to adjust to a much higher HR. (beta blockers does lower HR) The cardiologist was quite happy with a average of 160 as long as its not for "extended periods". Apparently 2 to 3 hours are not seen as an extended period. I basically started my running from scratch and worked my way up to longer distances (not that the distances I do now are super wow).
So all in all, I stopped worrying about my HR going into the 180s every now and then. My VO2 max went from a 45 to a 39 because of the change in HR.
For me the test is can I talk during a run and I just listen to my body, it tells me very quickly when Im being stupid.

There's life beyond Nike. Stay away from Mr P. For less than R1.5k you can get Adidas Duraspeeds, ASICS GT1000 and some premium brands when theyre on sale.Hey runners. Is R2000 for "Joma" brand shoes a good price? My girl wanted Nike but almost fell on my back when I saw it costs R4300. Mr P sports have these weird brands that Iv'e never heard of but still costs R1200 - R2000![]()
Give Puma a try. I was also a Nike runner until I went to a Puma 5km run event. Swopped my Nikes for a pair of Velocity's and besides enjoying the evening run, ran my fastest 5km without any issues. Went and bought a pair the next week. Now I alternate between Nike, Adidas and Puma for road while sticking to Salomon for trails.Hey runners. Is R2000 for "Joma" brand shoes a good price? There's a ON store in Rosebank always has end of range for good prices.
Reebok also coming up with their top rated Floatzig range.
Hoka, Brooks, Saucony, Puma also has great shoes for less than R2K.

Already seeing improvement. Max HR should be around 190 - 192. Been a while since I pushed myself to the max.Apologies I missed this.
Your HR will return to normal. Whats your max HR? Your zone 3 might actually be your zone 2. Back in the day we did not have HR monitors so would just run our easy run at what they called conversation pace. Your more elite runners only use 3 HR zones. My max is 204bpm. Most of my easy runs are at 144bmp.
Or you will score a black toenail as consolation prize.+1 for Puma. @Zanowait till you run in a pair of deviate nitro 3's you will PB over all distances.
Hope so. Or do you have inside info? I need to pick up the other ForeverRun 2 colourway. The more I run with it the more I like the FRR 2. The width & toebox is perfect for me.There will be a easter sale.
I sometimes get black toenails if I run in the heat ie. Afternoon workout when it's 32+ degrees celcuis.Already seeing improvement. Max HR should be around 190 - 192. Been a while since I pushed myself to the max.

Chest straps are quite accurate thats why I wear one. I often compare my chest strap to my watch built in HR on monitor. The wrist based monitor is definitely delayed and only accurate when you just walk around or don't do anything intense that builds up a sweat.I think you also have to consider that heart rate monitors are also not always accurate.

I have the garmin HRM pro plus and the garmin HRM Dual. When it come to measuring you HR both are good. The Pro plus tracks some extra stuff like stride length, vertical oscillation, ground contact time etc. Vertical oscillation and ground contact time seems to be more accurate with the HRm than with the watch.I've found the FR165 HR sensor to be pretty good. At least compared to reading on the exercise bike and band 7.
Only thing I've seen was the lag at the start of runs and during interval sessions. The HR spikes are there, just slightly delayed.
Might have to look into picking up a chest strap. Any recommendations?
Anyone know how good the Suunto Smart V3 is? See it's a bit cheaper than the Garmin and Polar versions.
