The official running thread™

I started in 2014 after not having run more than 300 metres in 25 years, and my first parkrun was about 42 min. I could hardly walk for 3 weeks though, pushed it way too hard. My PB was in 2018, only come vaguely close once since then. :(
Awesome, i started Jan 2016, took it serious and trained properly for a few years, worked my way up to a 32k and then found obstacle course racing in 2018 and focused on that up until lockdown and since then its been downhill but i seem to finally be back on track with health and finally have motivation to get up in the morning on a saturday to go run LOL

Been a bit sick these past 2 weeks. Drastic decline in the total mileage I've done these past 2 weeks (70km total)😭 anyways.... worked on my new business venture during this time.

Hope you are feeling better now. Getting sick sucks and derails everything.

Anyone planning on doing the Om Die Dam 2026?

I did it many years ago, it was very enjoyable, and bonus of being close to JHB/PTA.

The problem is that it often clashes with the Cosmos 3-in-1 in Secunda, which I really enjoy doing.

Ok decided to try a easy 20 min base run (watch recommend) after injuring my knee on the 3rd of July. Everything feels ok for now

2.97....man if I knew I would have just squeezed for that 3km xD

That's always annoying when it happens. I like to end in round numbers.

Don't be an idiot like me and remember to ease back into things gradually.

I sometimes run in circles around our cul-de-sac (like a squirrel) just to round up my runs, I will never ever allow for a ".97"..

I've gotten better at it. Normally if it was X.1 I'd go until it was X+1 (example 5.1 km to 6 km). Now I only do that when it's X.5 or really close to the next km. I do an extra lap around the block and that most often does the trick.

A couple of achievements for me last week.

I hit 500 parkruns (at 112 different venues, including 55 inaugural parkruns).

And on Discovery Vitality, I hit 400 consecutive weeks of hitting my weekly targets, most 900 points per week. I did that every week even with colds, flu, sprained ankles, during covid, with covid, and when away on holiday.

Cut-off times WILL BE strictly enforced and if ANY PERSON don’t adhere to these times, they will not be allowed to finish the race and will be banned to EVER run this race again.

I thought you were fibbing.. :)

What they are saying refers to people not adhering to the cut-off times, and not when runners don't make the cut-off times..

I did it many years ago, and it was a great experience, you're running around the dam with the Magalies mountains in the background, and close to home. Granted it was my first ultra ever, maybe thats why it was so great.

Not sure what its like these days, but pretty sure it's maintained its status, its been around for ever.

What does that mean though?

What's the difference between missing cut off and not adhering to cut off? Maybe ignoring the marshals and continuing to the end after cutoff.

Either way, I see the times are very generous. 6 hours for the marathon. So they do have a point. If can't reach 42km in 6 hours, you really have no business in an a ultra.
