Thanks. Read that yesterday - not exactly a stellar review but definitely value for money. Will wait to hear from those here with experience with the unit.

Yes, I have a black Xiaomi Mi Max 2 - since July. I love it !!!!! I have no desire to change it for anything else. I wouldn't swop it for an iPhone X or Samsung Note 8.

It is a large phone at 6.44" screen size, so it's not everyones cup of tea. But I like large phones, if I only made phone calls then I would go for the smallest phone available....but these days my smart phone is used about 1 % of the time for calls, and for 99 % of the time it is used for media consumption, WhatsApp, GPS navigation, camera, watching movies, looking at photos, apps etc etc - so a larger device gives a way better experience.

The SIM tray has two slots, either SIM and SIM, or SIM and micro SD card. I use SIM and 64 GB micro SD card. I have never tried two SIM cards in there, but I have no doubt it would work as you want it to. In the phone settings you can allocate how each SIM card is used.

I never thought I would use one of those phone ring things, but it was only a few dollars, so I bought one and put it at the back of the phone on the back case. It really makes handling the large phone much easier. With the ring through a finger, one handed phone operation is easy, and safe - no chance of the phone slipping out the hand.

Good points: Incredible large immersive display. Crisp, clear, no pixels seen.
Excellent sound - stereo using two speakers on the forehead and chin of the phone
Battery life !!!!! excellent. Best smartphone battery life I have encountered, only charge my phone every 3 - 4 days
Build quality - excellent, seamless, nice rounded edges, slim
Fingerprint sensor - excellent. Brush your finger past the sensor and it wakes up and opens the phone instantly. Fast and accurate

Bad points ? I have been sitting here for 5 minutes trying to think of some, and can't come up with any compelling bad points. There are some features that are "average" but certainly not bad. Camera is plenty good enough for me, although some perfectionists might call it "average". MIUI based on Android Nougat works well, although it is rather bland. I downloaded a few launchers off the play store, and use one of them rather than the stock launcher.

At the price on Gearbest, I think it is one of the best buys out there....providing you like larger phones. If this phone gets stolen, I would buy another BLACK Mi Max 2 tomorrow...

Surfs-up, thanks for your great response. Come from a history of Samsung Notes. Going off Samsung for cost considerations. Will see what Gearbest can offer in terms of price on Mi Max2.

What Ram, etc. spec did you buy?

I wanted a black one, and with that colour there is only a 64 GB and 4 GB RAM available. If you don't mind the gold or white, then there is a 128 GB version available. I have asked Xiaomi to do a batch of 128 GB in black, and if that ever happens, I will buy one of those.

Ok so I have dual whatsapp and telegram apps running on the phone. When selecting the one whatsapp it goes straight into the profile it needs to go into, when selecting the other one it asks me which one to open.

This is the same for telegram. Is there a way to fix this as I would prefer to not choose which one I would like to access everytime.

I am using nova launcher if that makes a difference.

The other thing that is bothering me a bit is the media I receive in whatsapp when using data is not being downloaded automatically even though the settings are correct within whatsapp. If I am on wifi it downloads as it should but on normal data I have to manually download the pictures.
I have the same issues. The dual app icon takes me straight into WhatsApp but the other icon asks me which one. Quite irritating.

Just ordered my Mi Max 2 from Gearbest. Excited!

Congrats! Which method of shipping did you choose? Which variant (RAM, ROM and colour)? Did you order covers and a screen protector along with it or will you be running without?

Ok, took the leap this morning and orderred the Mi Max 2, black at $242 and $8.38 for Aramex priority line. That worked out to R3639.54 that Paypal took from my bank account.
Will report back when I pay customs etc. I also orderred a screen protector, case and extra type C cable, though, I was forced to do a separate transaction, as it wasn't stocked in HK warehouse, with the phone.

Thanks for the update - looking like it will be bang on their 7-10 working days estimate for Priority Line

Gearbest ZA helped me place order and delivery. Priority delivery through 'Aramex'. 4gb RAM, 64gb ROM, black. no accessories ordered yet. Once I know what's cutting, I'll try to order a cover and car bracket thing...

Congrats. The Mi Max 2 with all it's smooth curves and large size, is very slippery in hand. You will need to get a rubberised cover for the back which solves the slippery issue, and just handle it with care until you do get one. I use a Nillkin back case on my Mi Max 2 also from GearBest

Thanks for that link surfs-up. Will order accessories as soon as phone has been received. Could you please send me a link to the ring that you mentioned previously too?

Update : Received phone about an hour ago. Very impressed with delivery, as I live in the country side.
busy using Mi Mover to automatically moving everything from RN3 to Mi Max 2. So far, just an awesome looking device.

So there's it, 16 days, or 12 business days, from order to delivery. Since Aramex received it from Gearbest, it was 9 days or 7 business days. Gearbest is a bit slow to get items out, but not complaining.
