Pagani has revealed the Huayra BC Roadster, a new variant of its hypercar featuring a removable roof and uprated engine with even more power.
Named to commemorate Benny Caiola, the Ferrari collector who became Pagani's first customer, the BC Roadster follows on from the Coupe version revealed in 2016, featuring a removable carbonfibre hardtop.
Pagani claims the BC weighs just 1250kg, 30kg less than the regular roadster, with a structure that incorporates conventional carbonfibre alongside even rarer and lighter materials, including a carbon-titanium mix that is both lighter and stronger.
The aerodynamic elements and the vast rear wing create a claimed peak of 500kg of downforce at 174mph. It even has flaps next to the exhaust's catalytic converters to divert gases over some of the underfloor elements like an F1 car's blown diffuser.
Horacio Pagani still works as the company's chief designer, and admits he thinks of his products as being works of art as well as cars. The Huayra Roadster's shape and form still owes a fair amount to the stance and proportions of the original Zonda, which was released 20 years ago, but the details on the BC have grown much more advanced. The exposed metal mechanism of the gear selector is a highlight of the cabin and an example of Pagani's need to prioritise design over cost.
As with other versions of the Huayra, the BC Roadster uses a version of the Mercedes-AMG-sourced M158 twin-turbo V12. However revisions, including newly designed turbochargers, increase power from the 740bhp of the last model to 791bhp. Torque peaks at 775lb ft of torque, the latter available from 2000rpm to 5600rpm.

At long last, the Pagani Huayra BC Roadster has been revealed and as expected it is automotive art.
Pagani claims this new Roadster was an “unprecedented, technical challenge” due to the need to provide maximum performance, a track-like driving experience, and slashing excess weight.
The centrepiece of the Pagani Huayra BC Roadster is a dramatic new engine. The 6.0-litre V12 power unit has been reworked for the BC Roadster, producing more power than ever before. The headline figures include 800 hp (597 kW) and 1,050 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm. Mercedes-AMG has reworked the twin-turbochargers, fitted a new hydroformed manifold, throttle bodies and four water to air intercoolers. The new engine complies with all of the latest international emission standards.
Of course, being a BC variant, some weight has been shed and since it tips the scales at 1,250 kg, it is 30 kg lighter than the ‘regular’. Power is transferred to the tarmac by an Xtrac transverse seven-speed sequential gearbox.
Aerodynamics have been tweaked for the BC Roadster with a re-designed rear wing. The stems are mounted away from the edge of the wing with the wing taking on a slightly concave shape. The front bumper gains slight modifications to the front air intakes and a set of redesigned, larger, canards.

If you happen to have that sort of cash stashed at the bottom of your sock drawer, you’d better dig it out quickly: Pagani plans to build just 40 units.
The engine employed by the Huayra Roadster BC is a 6,0-litre V12 developed by the folks over at Mercedes-AMG. It generates 596 kW and 1 050 N.m, which is directed to the rear axle via a seven-speed (single-clutch) Xtrac sequential gearbox.

Italian hypercar specialist Pagani has unleashed the roadster version of its most potent creation ever and it was designed from the ground up to provide absolutely ludicrous performance.
The new Huayra Roadster BC is powered by a 6-litre twin-turbo V12 developed specifically for Pagani by Mercedes-AMG, and as you’d expect in such a situation, it’s got more power than the now retiring twelve-cylinder models from Affalterbach, with Pagani quoting outputs of 590kW at 5900rpm and 1050Nm between 2000 and 5600rpm.
Keep in mind that there is minimal weight to pull here, with the Roadster BC boasting a kerb weight of just 1250kg. This is largely thanks to a monocoque structure made from an improved version of Pagani’s incredibly clever ‘carbotanium’, which is a weaved combination of titanium and carbon fibre.
Power goes to the back wheels only through an XTrac seven-speed single-clutch automated manual transmission and an electro-mechanical differential, while suspension consists of aluminium independent double wishbones with helical springs and adaptive dampers.

There are very few cars that come straight from the factory with six exhausts with the only ones springing to mind being the Bugatti La Voiture Noire and the Black Badge versions of the Rolls-Royce Wraith and Dawn.
Well, now there is another as the new Pagani Huayra Roadster BC has a specifically developed titanium exhaust system. It has the usual quad tips where you’d expect them to be, plus two more hidden in the menacing rear diffuser. Shmee150 had the opportunity to take a closer look at the Huayra Roadster BC at Pagani’s factory, and you can see him filming the two tiny exhaust tips at the 9:52 mark.
The manufacturer explains, there are “two extra direct outlets from the catalytic converters to exploit the blown diffuser principle and generate further downforce.”

Horacio Pagani, the founder of Italy’s most extravagant hypercar maker, has confirmed that a fully electric hypercar is in the works – but the highly regarded V12 engine will stick around for some time.
Pagani is a man who has always found it difficult to say no to his customers. His company’s first hypercar, the Zonda, had its retirement delayed for years because affluent buyers, including Lewis Hamilton, begged for the chance to buy one.
Now we’re facing what is meant to be the last version of the Huayra, the BC Roadster, although Pagani himself admits that plan may slip.
“It is scheduled to be the last production model,” he told Autocar. “But I am also listening to some private collectors who are asking maybe for a one-off or a limited edition, which will probably extend the lifespan a little more.”
Pagani remains ultra-exclusive even by the standards of Italian hypercar makers, producing around 40 cars a year. But the company is profitable and has always taken a long-term approach to planning, with Pagani saying that work is well advanced on the Huayra’s replacement – known internally as the C10 – ahead of a launch scheduled for 2022.
“This next model will have a similar philosophy. It will have a traditional combustion engine, a new-generation Mercedes-AMG V12 twin-turbo,” he said. “We have a very close relationship with Mercedes already and this new V12 engine will be homologated until 2026.”
Pagani is also working on an EV that will be developed from the same core architecture as the conventional hypercar. “The C10 will have a regular V12 but, at the same time, there will be a full-electric vehicle,” he said. “It is not going to be exactly the same platform. It will be modified.”
