Thanks for the advice above guys. I've ordered most of my parts from Wootware and they were quick to respond to my questions. Unfortunately the CPU and motherboard are only expected in stock next week.
I ordered the case from Evetech since I was set on getting a NZXT h700i and Evetech seems to be the only place to get one.

It's a case, not much to go wrong there. If the box is damaged take photos before opening it.

Hi guys

Is Duf-Man still here, is this still active. Got a build/BOM I'm putting together and would like a second pair of eyes on it, confirm the bits would work together, maybe make some product suggestions.

Some might be agreed with, some might be listed to and then declined, does not mean I don't appreciate the recommendations

Usage: NAS & Media server, and ye I know it's overbuild, it's for reason.

The 10 bays for the case is important, I will fit day 1 4 x HDD's, 1 x SSD and be booting off a USB thumb drive.
Not finding other "smallish" sized 10 bay cases though, if anyone know of.
CASE: https://www.takealot.com/fractal-design-node-804-window-chassis/PLID34268528
Happy to entertain other options, won't mind a MB that have 4 PCI slots and Wifi on board instead of having to fit a WiFi card.
Mini ITX MB's is not a option as I need more than the standard 1 x PCI slot, need to add Wifi, SATA controller for SSD and a SATA controller for additional drives above the 4 standard SATA 3 points.

MB: https://www.firstshop.co.za/gigabyte-ga-h87m-d3h-10-motherboard-GA-H87M-D3H-p-8146

CPU: http://www.mineaway.co.za/DESKTOPS/...oduct_id=127&sort=p.price&order=ASC&limit=100

IF I go with XPEnology like it looks at the moment then I can drop down to 1 Dimm of 8GB,if I chose FreeNAS which is starting to look unlike then I will use 16GB / 2 Dimms. For cost saving I'd prefer a DDR3 based setup at this time.
RAM: (16GB, might drop down to 8GB) 2 x https://www.firstshop.co.za/showproduct.aspx?productid=34735

PSU: https://www.takealot.com/corsair-cx...t-80-plus-bronze-certified-modul/PLID43686768

HDD: 4 x https://www.firstshop.co.za/showproduct.aspx?productid=40324

SSD: 1 x https://www.firstshop.co.za/showproduct.aspx?productid=46488

Additionally Looking for:
1 x PCI Express card with 4x SATA 3 ports, to give me 10 ports
1 x Intel based Ethernet + WiFi card.

Notes: I've come across a SATA3 PCI Express card that allows me to put the SSD onto the card, it screwed on, might do this, gives me a dedicated port, not using one of my above 10 which is to be used for large HDD and also not use a HDD slot.

Welcome to PM me.

Noob question quickly...

the SATA3 standard, is it one port on MB onto one drive, or do you get cables that can handle multiple drives onto one cable onto on MB port/point.

Answering my own question, thanks Wikipedia.

SATA cables can have lengths up to 1 metre (3.3 ft), and connect one motherboard socket to one hard drive

Google: SATA port multiplier

Would not use them in raid setup though.

^, I'd save all that money and get a fast internet connection...online storage for photos and whatnot, streaming services for media. NAS is going the way of the dinosaur ;)

What will it be used for?

Wait for cheaper non-Z boards.

You dont provide prices for individual components so impossible to do comparisons.

Intel Core i3-8100 3.6GHz Quad Core 14nm Coffee Lake Socket LGA1151 Desktop CPU R1,899.00

Asus Prime Z370-P LGA1151 Intel Z370 Coffee Lake ATX Desktop Motherboard R2,199.00

G.Skill F4-2666C15D-8GVR Ripjaws V 8GB (2x4GB) 2666MHz DDR4 CL15 1.2V Red Desktop Memory R1,369.00

G.Skill FT-M8SI-120GRS3 Ripjaws S3 120GB SATA 6GB/s M.2 2280 Solid State Drive R549.00

Asus GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC Edition CERBERUS-GTX1050TI-O4G 4GB GDDR5 128-bit PCI-E 3.0 Desktop Graphics Card R3,099.00

Super Flower SF-550F14MT Leadex 550W 80 Plus Silver Certified Fully Modular Desktop Power Supply R979.00

@Ponder - Any thoughts or changes? Already have a case, mouse, keyboard, hard drive and screen. Build is for a family member, 1080p Gaming PC.

Might change the processor to a K variant to overclock later. Any idea when the cheaper model motherboards will come out?

Thanks.
