Very good. They're an oem manufacturer for the likes of evga, corsair, rosewill. jonnyguru rates them up there with seasonic.

Okay just threw it all together in the old CM690 chassis, man times have definitely changed as cable management is a biaaaatch on that thing. Also need to get a fan controller as the motherboards chassis fans are out of reach of the cm690 fans, need to clean up that chassis inside as wow.
Also the Asrock B450M HDV is tiny, I mean really tiny, it look lost in this case, might make me buy a micro-atx case :) and the layout is a bit odd cause of it's size, also uses a 4 pin ATX power supply which I've not seen in yonks. So had to use an extender I had laying around as it fitted while the normal power supply 8pin didn't, so a little ketchup and mustard showing.
Windows 10 is great, new motherboard, new CPU and RAM and it booted without a hitch, set RAM XMP profile 1 to 3200mhz and it's fine. can't really compare the 1600af to the old 4430 that was in the cm690 before but will see with time.

Look at that it's gone up R50 already since last week, when it went up R100 and the week before R100..
Yup PC worked first time, that's why I was confused by people saying it needs to boot loop?

So I was a bit of an idiot. Read a bit more online and the PC cant boot without ram, which is why I had the bootloop yesterday. Put one ram stick in now and it stays on. Will put the GPU back a bit later and see if something works now. Also found a speaker in an old case, but had to abuse it a bit to get out, not sure if it works anymore.

Quickly plugged the GPU back in, and started it. Screen still black, then after about 5 seconds it shows the boot menu. Man am I relieved right now. This was with only 1 RAM stick, which I did on Saturday as well, so I need to plug the other stick in as well and hope it still works. Thanks for all the help from everyone here, I am not sure why it finally worked (maybe the multiple boot issue?) I am just glad it is working. Will set it up and install Windows tonight after work.

This has happened to people were the ram was not properly seated, so it's a possibility.

Yup have had that happen as well. Strangely enough this old 4430 I replaced the 1600af with.

So maybe slightly off-topic, but can someone recommend a 3.5inch sata to usb 3 enclosure (want to use my old desktop hdd on my laptop), and where to get it from right now?

I checked wootware and there don't seem to be any in stock (I think).

I think this board is cursed. It went into bios this morning, now i plugged the other ram stick and the nvme drive in, and boot loop. Plug other ram out, same. Take nvme out, same. Fiddle with everything again, sometimes boot loop, sometimes it just stays on but no display. The old speaker never beeped so i think that is broken. Can the nvme drive cause a problem with the bios?

read up on them ..
exactly like you said
going to go with that brand

spent the day weighing up between Ryzen 3 3200g with Apu and Ryzen 5 1600af
the minimum GPU will add +/- 2-2,500 to the CPU

couldn't justify cost as i need to add in peripherals like monitor which for 27 inch will be +/- 2,500 upwards

so sticking with the 3 3200g @ +/- 1900
adding the g skill ripjaw RAM as you mentioned , any difference with 1x16 or 2x8? @+/- 1700
also taking the super flower 500w bronze @+/- 980
taking the msi b450 tomahawk max @+/- 2,300
sabrent 256 NMVE @ +/- 1180
SEAGATE barracuda 3tb @+/- 1300
narrowed down case to
Phantek P400
NZXT 510
FRACTAL DESIGN meshify C
all between 1300-1500

this totals approx 10,600

sounds doable?

The lowest of low gpus will do if you're not gaming.

With 27" I would not go under 1440p resolution. The dot pitch for 1080p is to large on a 27" imho.

You need 2x8 for dual channel operation. Don't get 1x16 as it will only operate in single channel due to reduced bandwidth and it will lower the speed. Always dual channel.

taking the msi b450 tomahawk max @+/- 2,300

Note Rebeltech will probably only ship after lockdown whenever that is, confirm with them first.

Phantek P400
NZXT 510

P400A has the best thermals followed by the fractal if i'm not mistaken, gamers nexus has the stats for cases.

Look the APU on the 3200 is really really just okay, even a R2279 RX560 would beat the socks off of it, so just be aware of that, you may get games at low 1080p but that's it.
