I'm upgrading soon, I currently have a i5-4670 + GTX 780 with a 1080p60 monitor.

I'm aiming for 1440p at 144Hz. What I'm looking at is:
CPU: i5-9600k
MB: MSI Z390-A PRO
GPU: Palit RTX 2080 Super
Monitor: AOC CQ27G1 27" 1440p 144Hz 1ms FreeSync
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16 GB

For now I'm keeping my current case, PSU and SSD.

What I'm wondering about is:
1. If my CPU/Motherboard combination is looking kosher?
2. If it's worth considering an i7-9700k for R2000 more?
3. How do I shop for a CPU cooler, since the new Intel chips don't come with stock coolers?

my laptop is still generating heat even though the power options is at maximum processor state 90%
i read on google it's a non working PSU fan not keeping the pc cold enough. what do i do ? Gigabyte Q1742 laptop.
it turns itself off when i am in the middle of GTA V.

1. It's fine
2. That will give you the best performance
3. Buy a decent one that tickles your fancy and fits the cpu socket type, ie LGA1151 for 9600k but they're pretty much universal these days.

Why are you looking at the i5-9600k?

Have you considered ryzen 3600, 3600x & 3700x. The 3700x is cheaper than a 9700k and pretty capable gaming wise, application wise it stomps on intel. MSI B450 Tomahawk MB will go well with ryzen.
Something else to consider is the 1% lows in framerate, it's more important than the max framerates as it affects the smoothness of a game.

I hadn't even considered an AMD chip, I've been using intel for so long...
This is very compelling, it looks like I'd lose around 5% fps at 1440p, but the cost savings are really great.

I have some thinking to do!

Won't be a problem.
Do you know where I can get the best settings for GTA V for my hardware?

Tried playing earlier and game looks good most parts but then has little freezes every now and then (very very quick tho but still annoying). My thoughts are maybe something in settings that need to be on or off maybe?

GTAV has a weird thing where it stutters at high FPS or something, I can't remember exactly what it was but you can Google and find it very easy, it's pretty common.

Yeah have found a few sites with settings etc but was just checking here if anyone with same or similar GPU and what their ideal settings where.

GTA V is one of those weird games where you need to strike a balance between cpu & gpu. I run a heavily modded instance at 1620p on a gtx1060 and old 4core i5.

What settings are you currently running?
What's your max & avg fps?
What's your gpu utilisation like? I suspect it's not maxed out.
If you enable dsr in nvidia control panel, and set the game resolution to 4k full screen do you still get the problem? What's the gpu utilisation like now?

Try using my settings file at 4k res, it's at the bottom of this post https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/what-game-are-you-playing-now.629685/post-23705613

Oh, heard something about new nvidia drivers being a bit wonky.

Hi guys, I am upgrading within a week or so. I have my list of things I need for the upgrade. CPU, Motherboard, Ram, etc. I am going AMD Ryzen 7 3700x - Regardless, I have built this rig on Wootware but noticed, if I order it all via Amazon US, I am able to get it for R4000 cheaper (this includes transport / courier costs).

My question is, is this a viable way to go?

So built done very happy with it.
Ryzen 5 3600
RX5700 XT
MSI B450 Gaming plus
Teamview 16 gb running at 3200 set in bios
AOC CQ27G1
NZXT H500i
Just wondering cpu base clock is 3600 boost 4200 when in desktop it runs at 4100 without doing any changes.
Can/should I change it to run at 3600 when not playing games ? Reasons obv temps etc.
