Yea a 3600 is perfect for gaming right now. However, this is a work and gaming rig, so a couple extra cores and higher clocks could be useful. Also, we expect games to take better advantage of more cores so the extra would provide longevity.
It's more the thinking than the actual CPU's that's important in that vid. The illustration of diminishing returns is pretty clear.
For a semi-workstation the conversation becomes about the 3700X vs the 5800X when comparing the new generation to what's available now. I don't know where the 10700K fits into that equation but I'm guessing 3rd place when Z490 pricing is taken into account.
