Quetta Gladiators' Faf du Plessis concussed during collision while fielding

A concussion has ruled Faf du Plessis out of the Quetta Gladiators' ongoing match against the Peshawar Zalmi in Abu Dhabi. du Plessis suffered a blow to the head when he collided with his team-mate Mohammad Hasnain during the seventh over of the Zalmi innings. He was replaced in the XI by Saim Ayub.

The collision took place when David Miller drove Mohammad Nawaz down the ground, between du Plessis at long-on and Hasnain at long-off. Both fielders converged at speed, with Hasnain making a late attempt to evade a collision as du Plessis dived to his right to stop the ball. Hasnain couldn't quite pull away, however, and du Plessis' head crashed into his knee.

du Plessis lay prone on the ground for a few minutes while the Gladiators physio attended to him, but eventually got on his feet to walk back into his team's dugout. The Gladiators' management said soon after that he was being taken to hospital.

Ayub, the 19-year-old left-hand batter, played five T20 games, all of them during the early stages of PSL 2021, before the tournament was suspended due to a growing number of Covid-19 cases among its participants.

The Gladiators are using a concussion substitute for the second successive match. During their last match against the Islamabad United, allrounder Andre Russell took a blow to his helmet from a Mohammad Musa bouncer. He was replaced by the fast bowler Naseem Shah. Russell was not available for selection for Saturday's match against Zalmi.

Steyn, Philander, De Villiers and Amla were our 4 best players. They left in quick succession.
Then add Morkal and a few others that went Kolpak. Faf the latest. A new captain. And you can see why they are rebuilding…

Seems a bit ridiculous seeing as they currently less than 1500 active cases nationwide... ??
 
Interesting to see what will happen now but I can see three possibilities once the SA team comes back home.

1. Boucher resigns

2. He issues a strong response to Paul Adams testimony (the issue blows over after a couple of weeks).

3. He issues a weak response and players publically turn on him. In this case, he will either have to resign or CSA reach a parting of ways settlement. You cannot have a coach who has lost the trust of his own players. This usually is what ends up happening to Jose Mourinho after he has coached a soccer team for two years.

Dale Steyn has announced his decision to retire from cricket, bringing the curtain down on one of the most outstanding careers in the game. Steyn, 38, has been in and out of the game in recent years because of injuries, and, writing on his Twitter handle, summed up his state of mind as "bitter sweet but grateful".

"It's been 20 years of training, matches, travel, wins, losses, strapped feet, jet lag, joy, and brotherhood. There are too many memories to tell. Too many faces to thank," Steyn wrote, quoting lines from the Counting Crows' A Long December to express himself. "Today I officially retire from the game I love the most. Bitter sweet but grateful.

"Thank you to everyone, from family to teammates, journalists to fans, it's been a incredible journey together."

In January, Steyn had made himself unavailable for Royal Challengers Bangalore's campaign at the 2021 edition of the IPL, adding, however, that he wasn't retiring from the game, but that he would play other T20 leagues "nicely spaced out" to allow him to pursue other things. He had left Test cricket in August 2019. In 2020, having missed out on a central contract with South Africa, Steyn was picked in their T20I team and made it clear he would be looking to play in the T20 World Cup that year. This was shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic struck and the World Cup was called off.

After starting his representative cricket career in 2003 in a first-class match for Northerns, Steyn got his South Africa cap the following year, in a Test against England in Port Elizabeth. He went on to play 93 Test matches (439 wickets at an average of 22.95), 125 ODIs (196, 25.95) and 47 T20Is (64, 18.35). At his peak, Steyn was also a much sought-after player in T20 leagues around the world, playing for franchises and clubs in England, India, Australia, Pakistan, the West Indies and Sri Lanka, apart from in South Africa.

They were the Springboks then...became the Proteas on the tour of India in 1991 if I remember correctly!

Is it?

Apart from Temba, I haven't heard anyone else speak out in support of him. CSA has a very strict media policy and the players are trained to give ambiguous answers without saying anything.

There haven't been messages of condemnation defininitely but he's not received messages of endorsement either.
