This. Abbott was never going to be another Allan Donald. 4 years on the bench made sure of that. He has no choice but to look out for his future. Anything else would be dumb.

I completely agree.

but the sad thing is the best we could do is to stop supporting them, not the team, CSA.
stop going to live games (we did that already with the domestic championships) and stop watching on supersport. start watching on sky sports.

hit them in the pocket.

but then we take away the money they need to invest in the grass roots level, forcing them to enforce bigger quotas. making more skilled players leave.

so in short there is nothing we can do about it to help the game.

and I cannot blame them, but at the same time, that is a symptom of the greater problem, and not a solution.

the only plausible solution is to litrally funnel money from soccer into cricket. on a grass roots level.
change the mindset of the population that soccer is the only way to get rich, and that cricket is a white man's game.


but that will never happen.

ros£ouw are definitely. Plus they get to take second and third jobs as well with ipl and cpl. So no no justification for their greed in turning their backs on the proteas...

Cape Town - Marchant de Lange looks set to be the next Proteas cricketer to opt for a Kolpak deal in England.

According to Afrikaans weekly, Rapport, De Lange could join Glamorgan, with negotiations between the fast bowler and the English county “at an advanced stage”.

De Lange, 26, has played two Tests, four ODIs and six T20Is for South Africa in an injury-plagued career.

This follows a weekend report on ESPNcricinfo that Proteas all-rounder David Wiese would join Sussex.

According to the cricket specialist website, Wiese has informed his franchise, the Titans, that he is seeking a Kolpak deal but that he has yet to confirm his departure.

Wiese has primarily been used in T20Is by South Africa but at 31, a Kolpak contract would almost certainly spell an end to his international career.

All have represented SA at the highest level and are not eligible to play for England IIRC

Edit: I am mistaken, I remember the Roelof vd Merwe case, there has to be a time gap in which they haven't played for SA, so in time yes they will be eligible. Though I think this is money and not seeking eligibility for England like Abbott

Why would it be any different from Luke Ronchi?

As far as I can tell, 4 years residency and they qualify.

They first have to satisfy a seven year residency requirement
 
Wiese would be a big loss. he proved very valuable in the shorter formats.


but hopefully this will make CSA wake up. players have no issue if they are left out because they are not performing as best they could.

but if you leave out a good player to maintain quota, the good player will leave.
 
I see it's Hash's 100th test coming up. From someone who had a horrid technique to the mainstay of the batting lineup. How far he's come. I predict a big hundred from him this match. Go you good thing! :)
