The rich & selfishness

has it ever come to your mind that just maybe you should think a little less about yourselves, and more about other ppl around you? maybe even live less richly (omg!!!!), and try to lift the ppl that has less than you up. Adults are not the future of the country, but the kids are ... and if 90% of those kids are poor, suffer from malnutrition, whose problem will it be in the future???? Not yours, but your children's problem.

Why not explore solutions for this valid and critical issue in another thread and let's get back to the OP ?

The poor can go ask the government that they elected into power for charity. I hand over enough in taxes to pay 6 social grants and what do I get in return: nothing, absolutely nothing. 40% of my income goes to paying corrupt bureaucrats (which I didn't elect), 14% to VAT, more to fuel and other levies, several percent to "redistribution" levies, after which I have to pay for my own schooling, security and healthcare, and now you still expect me to support the poor. I only use 20% of what I worked damn hard to earn, the fat incompotent polititions taking the other 80% can support the poor. I refuse.

All one can really do is laugh at comments like this......

as far as I am concerned if they are unemployed then they are 1 to many, their parents should have though of that before they made him.

the biggest cliche ever is that they youth is the future, they will also die out. We take care of our kids and they take care of theirs. If they cant take care of them, then stop making kids as simple as that. If they dont get it then its not my problem that they failed basic budget match at school.

Also if you give a poor person money then he stays poor, he gets used to the circumstances and becomes dependand on you, if you let him go hungry then he might find another source of income. At the moment the world population doubles every 35 years. It is insane, Stop breeding.

Exactly. Those that get so upset abouy the carguards too. What's wrong with people to feel so entitled to their privelege while others suffer ? I know many of us worked hard for what we had but a lot of us really don't deserve to be living the lifestyle we are while others sell their dignity for a few rands.

Talk to the guys who work as car guards and get to know them. You're change is helping them get on with a honest living and support their families. Those tannies and ooms I see telling them to F-off make me want to spit on them. No one wants to kiss your bum for a few rands, they simply need to. You promote bad relations between the people of this country with your callous and frankly rude behaviour. Kee your precious R5's if it means so much to you , but don't be rude to anyone for the sake of it. That's losing your own dignity and theirs in a very real way.

How dare you preach about what I deserve! I deserve every cent I've earned. I'm entiled to every privilage I enjoy. My parents made "the right choices", unlike most of the population who chose to sit outside with a tin cup during the day, and breed like rabbits at night. They made a bad choice, they must live with it. If I ever made a (very) bad decision, nobody's going to come to me with a few bar and tell me, "Keep your houses, cars, and boats. You made a bad decision, but we'll bail you out." They're going to gloat and enjoy watching me suffer.

Just because Africa is a third world ****hole (and knowing Africans, always will be) doesn't mean that I must fix it. Is giving more than half my income to the people who's job it is to fix Africa, not enough. You people will only be happy when everyone is poor, because sure as ****, there is no chance of communism making everyone rich.

All one can really do is laugh at comments like this......

Laugh all you want, I laugh at you naive liberals every day.

Aantelery is die grootste probleem. Stop breeding and you pull a plug on poverty,

I agree with you 100%, but then you get those that cry 'It's not the children's fault that they are born' which is true, but where does it end?

i think its safe to say most of the people begging at robots arent even south african (thanks mugabe) and arent entitled to any grants of any sort here

I find that those who aren't South African, actually sell stuff like chargers and fake clothes, while the locals just stand there with a little placard and beg. :erm:

Lets look at this from a purely monetary perspective. Lets take the average kid that leaves school but doesn’t have the funds to get a tertiary education full time.

School kid typically joins a call centre. Average rate per hour: R35.

Person on the street, depending on the intersection. We'll put our person on the street at a busy intersection. Lets say they get R1 from every 3rd car. Average traffic per day +- 1000 cars within 8 hours.

Call center job= R35x 8 hours= R280
Person on the street=x 8 hours R333(tax free)

Chances are that the person on the street is collecting a grant of some sort as well. That +R1000 to the income. Again no tax. This street deal seems very lucrative to me.

So the school kid now call centre agent is contributing to society and paying part of the grant that the person on the street get only to have the person on the street earn more than them. The call centre agent still has to pay for part time studies and all the requirements that come with that.

Yes giving money to some who is seemingly less fortunate is morally fulfilling but unless that person is physically incapable of working im not sure why we perpetuate this behavior.

In some of these there are 16-18 year olds. They have left school to pursue this life. I have seen these kids taken to shelters only to find them back on the street a week later. Why aren’t the big companies getting involved and taking these kids off the street and providing them with a skill/trade. im sure there’s some kind of tax break for doing that.

Wow, you come across as a real douchebag, you know that? Maybe tone it down a little, champ.

all in all we are part the point of feeling sorry for them, you give them a pinky and they grab the hand.

To be honest, if the beggers on the streets are unemployed then they are 1 to many....

Aantelery is die grootste probleem. Stop breeding and you pull a plug on poverty,

That's not the point, you're supposed to feel sorry for someone else, when you see someone in pain you're supposed to feel a bit of that pain as well... We are not emotionless creatures.

No matter how drunk they are, dirty they are etc when someone asks you for a R5 and you have enough you should give. It's not about what they do with the money it's the fact that you helped that person. yes, there are some people that abuse the begging thing but still, that shouldn't change how you feel about helping someone.

'n R5 is tog niks...

Also you cannot tell people to stop "breeding", that's life and it won't ever stop, but you cannot blame the children for ending up in that situation, you should want to help them, THEY ARE ONLY CHILDREN.

I honestly find behaviour like this disgusting.

Some people would help a street dog but won't even do anything for the man living on the street...

Says alot about some people hey...

The dog can't change its situation, the man often can but chooses not to. I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen a beggar with a sign asking for work. When I do give money, I often give to people who look like they need it but not asking for it.

Agree with the emotion bit but how is the fact that you're starting a generation born to fail, fair?

I mean you have one kid and as a female you have 6 months of leave to bond and care for the child. There after you're spending R3000 on daycare fees for someone else to raise you’re child because you're out there earning a living.

Now take the lady on the street that has one child on the hip and another by her side. She exploits them. They dont have the opportunity to go to school because they're her cash cows. The vicious circle will run its course and your child will be handing one of her children a R5 someday.

I'll dare to say it. what if one of those kids turns to a life of crime because they werent taught that there were other ways to rise above your circumstance. One of those kids hijacks your kid? I think we make it too easy. Supplement the R5 in my previous post that shows potential "earnings". R500 a day or R15000 a month. not bad hey.

It's not about being able to change his situation or not.

It's the fact that you would feel more empathy towards a dog than a man.

That's what bothers me.

And sometimes you need to see beyond the facts and only try to help someone...

Nothing wrong with helping dogs IMO.

You just look at what you see, there is more that surrounds a situation. And yes, some people are exploiting these children. I was merely pointing out that people seem to lack kindness towards the next, less fortunate person.

Which leads nicely back to the OP....

On the morning of the 24th of December, whilst returning from Die Boord Spar,
I came across an elderly gentleman, dressed to perfection in his very best, slowly making his painful way across the road I was about to turn into, with his crutch, I guess he's close to seventy years of age.

I stopped and asked him if I could help.

This is what he told me:

That he is a gardener/handyman for a family here in Paradyskloof ( an upmarket leafy suburb on the slopes of Stellenbosch mountain), his employers had offered to take him to the doctor that morning (as he was in quite a bit of pain).

After making his way by foot (this gentleman is cripple), then taxi, then train, then taxi, then foot all the way to our suburb, he arrived at a locked up home, the family had gone away for Christmas.

I found him walking back to the highway, where he was hoping to hail a taxi.

I gave the gentleman a lift back to Stellenbosch and dropped him at the taxiranks there and gave him R50 (which he did not ask for), to compensate him for the monies he had obviousely spent in order to get to Stellenbosch from Klapmuts in the first place.

The above incident would have remained a private incident between me and the gentleman, if I had not been approached by our neighbours hungry cat, who came running towards me, even though I was walking with my dog.

The neighbours have been away for over a week already, and the fact that the cat approached me, with a husky on leash, immediately alerted me to the fact that the cat was hungry.

So I went and fed the cat.

I am angry that those who have comfortable lives and take so much for granted, can be so unaware of the plight of those around them.

Please people, most of us online, have much more than the majority of people around us, regardless of the fact the we have worked hard for it,
kindness is a civil attitude and does not cost us much.

Please spare a thought for the poor, sick and destitude, kindness is a worthy and very civil trait and it disgusts me to see the thoughtless cruelty of supposedly educated and civil people around me.

I am ashamed.

This thread is not about solely about street kids and beggars!!!

What irrates me the the arrogant fsuks that wont even look in their direction......

why are they arrogant ?

When I get near a robot I close my window and try not to even look at the beggars. Most of the time if they see you looking at them they will walk towards your car.

My mom once gave one of these beggars a bread and the **** threw it back into her and said he asked for money not food. :erm:

But I do support my local SPCA and the Animal Anti-Cruelty League.

Two years ago we(my dad and i) contributed towards and assisted in physically building three rdp homes. 4 months later these families were back in the shacks and were either renting out the house or sold it altogether. Can we really do more than that?

So we changed our approach. we buy 100 liters of milk and 100 loaves of bread and packs of sweeties for the kids every second weekend and give those to different areas. Even then we have people trying to con us. People trying to get more than 1 loaf and 1 milk which they then resell to those that didnt get. Lilith, i've seen good intentions go horribly wrong. One incident, after giving out the milk and bread, 3 idiots tried to hijack us. An hour earlier i handed one of the hijackers’ milk and bread. i ended up shooting 1 of them ( not fatally) the other two just ran.

You have a good heart Lilith but in my experience that can get you killed.
